Wackor is an interesting band from Hungary. Their sonic roots are in the American school at the end of the ‘90s. The more I listen to them the more they sound to me as a heavy grunge band, than all the groove, post-thrash etc. stuff. "Uncommon Ground" sounds quite common actually. Though it isn't a bad album, it has significant weaknesses.

For starters let's see what we have here. This is old school American heavy metal with grunge elements, not of the highest quality or technique. Still, it is pretty fun to listen to. It is similar to bands like Flotsam and Jetsam, Alice in Chains etc. The vocals are pure American ozzy-like style, and, as the sound in general, lacks aggressiveness. Still the vocals are really good.

The big weakness of this album is the production. The sound is dull, not pure enough, and the most important, it sounds thin and weak. It should have more volume. Wackor also have some metalcore riffs here and there, that don't get along well with their general sound. Actually they sound disconnected and thus, create a feeling of inconsistency. I think if the production was better though, it would be able to connect the metalcore elements with the general sound.

"Uncommon Ground" isn't a bad album. It is actually pretty fun to listen to. It's just average. There is nothing special here. It is a common old sound, played for a thousand years way better by classic bands. I still think that with a better production they might have been able to highlight their modern elements and stand out a little, but that's just a hypothesis. Hopefully their next work would be more cared for, but until then...
