The
appearance of bands that are trying
to bring the old-school classic British
rock sound back in the front part
of the stage can only be described
as something very positive, especially
when it is done with much energy ,
great enthusiasm and honest intentions.
In 2006, two were the bands that came
sloser than everybody else to the
above characteristics. The first one
was Wolfmother which offered us an
excellent debut album. The other one
is The Answer.
"Rise" is the title
of The Answer’s first studio
work and what can someone find in
this? Nothing else than well-played
frenzy heavy rock’n’roll
straight from the 70’s with
a modern touch. The band’s music
is deeply infuenced by Zeppelin, Bad
Company, AC/ DC, Thin Lizzy and the
list goes on and on… Arousing
riffs and rhythm section, some very
interesting solos, original rock’n’roll
feeling and a charismatic frontman.
The album starts with "Under the Sky"
which is a serious rocker and signals
the beginning of a travel back in
time. A travel that lasts almost fifty
minutes until the final notes of the
ballad "Always". Best moments? Together
with "Under the Sky" I would place
"Come Follow Me" with its crazy rhythm,
the bluesy slow paced "Memphis Water"
and "Into the Gutter" in which I could
swear it is Angus Young (I bow!) playing
the main riff there! I know that The
Answer have received great promotion
from the press in comparison to many
many other similar bands but the quality
of their music grant leave to this.
Of course, I find very awkward and
unsuccessful the stance of many people
that hurried to characterise them
as the new Led Zeppelin. Much and
hard work awaits them if they ever
want to be given such a title. The
fact is that with "Rise" they proved
that they have much to offer to the
scene. An album that every nostalgic
of the above mentioned period must
check out.
