This is a very belated
review, considering the time this
album was released, and probably most
of you have read about it somewhere
else, but I really wanted to share
my opinion on it with you and maybe
convince you to buy it, if you haven't
done yet. Why? Because this is the
best power metal release I've heard
recently. In fact for the last 2 months
I'm listening it at least twice a
day. I am a Tad Morose fan since its
early days and always thought of it
as an important progressive/power
metal band, so I'm very glad that
the time has finally come, when they
would claim the respect and recognition
they always deserved. The majority
of metal fans thought of them as an
average band, at least that's what
I believe, but I'm definitely sure
this is about to change.
First of all I have
to make one thing clear. "Modus
Vivendi" is pure US-style POWER
METAL album, with no signs of progressive
elements, as they used to have, or
"Hollywood" metal guidelines
(hopefully), like many modern power
metal bands. The album is consisted
of 10 songs, all of them close to
power metal perfection. From the start
you know what to expect from this
release. Excellent and solid guitar
work from Christer Andersson and Daniel
Olsson, that produce catchy and bombastic
riffs enriched by a balanced and powerful
rhythm section from the bassist Anders
Modd and the drummer Peter Morèn.
But the thing I like most, is the
exceptional heavy and raw but at the
same time energetic, persuasive and
melodic voice of Urban Breed that
really elevates the whole project.
I heard that there was a problem with
the production and that the album
was taken back from the stores, in
order to be produced again, but to
tell you the truth, I can't trace
a problem like that in my copy of
the album. Last but not least, I must
make an extra reference to the wonderful
cover artwork by Jan Meininghaus.
If these aren't enough to convince
you then I urge you to find a way
and listen to some of the 10 "Modus
Vivendi" masterpieces, such as
the opening song called "Anubis",
"Afraid to Die", "Life
in a Lonely Grave" and "When
the Spirit Rules the World".
Undoubtedly this
album will blow off your mind and
help you discover what power metal
really is and how it should be played
in the future. Tad Morose are here
to stay, no matter what. But do you
know what I really enjoy most? Their
story and success so far, is based
upon hard work and hunger for music
and not on the promotion from the
media or their company. Promotion
I said!!! Just imagine that we can't
find "Modus Vivendi" in
Greece, at least not yet. I also suggest
their previous album "Matters
of the Dark" another power metal
diamond.
