Well, it is kind
of difficult to put the music of the
band into a certain category. Obviously,
yes, it is progressive and a rather
technical one (I would rather remark
much, but much too technical), it
is fusion and above all, it is metal.
The three psycho musicians who fused
into one and thus constructing Spastic
Ink, guitar hero Ron Jarzombek (a
long time Watchtower band-mate), his
brother, the astonishing drummer Bobby
Jarzombek (ex- Juggernaut, Riot, Al
Dimeola and Halford member) and the
amazing Pete Perez (ex-Riot bass player)
have released their second piece of
art " Ink Compatible". Basically
I would rather stick on musical part
of the album than spend so much effort
on analyzing the history of the band
and its bandmembers. In the album
we have some additional support from
a variety of great musicians such
as vocalists Jason McMaster (providing
vocals on five tracks) and Daniel
Gildenlow (Pain Of Salvation), guitarist
Marty Friedman (Megadeth, Cacophony),
keyboardists and Jens Johanson (Stratovarius,
Yngwie Malmsteen), Jimmy Pits (Scholomance,
The Fractured Dimension) and David
Bagsby(Xen, Patrick Moraz), bassists
Michael Manring (Attention, Deficit,
Michael Hedges), Ray Riendeau (Halford,
Machines of Loving Grace), Doug Keyser
(Watchtower) and Sean Malone (Guardian
Knot. Cynic), and drummers Jeff Eber
(Dysrhythmia), and David Penna (Static,
Planet Hate, Ronnie Spector, SYS-X).
What amazed me most in the album is
how the whole thing gets started.
There is a dial-up connection occurred
(imagine your computer before the
Internet connection) and then the
whole theme turns into a musical composition
played by the three guys mentioned
before. What follows next is a heavy
storm of different, genuine and causing
headache musical ideas. It is important
to add that Ron Jarzombek is a great
supporter of the technological evolution
focused on computers and his "love"
can be easily seen in the tracks.
The album consists of 9 musical masterpieces,
sponsored by Spastic Ink to the fans
of the technical progressive metal.
Songs such as "Aquanet",
" Just a little bit", "Read
Me", " A Chaotic Realization
of Nothing Yet Misunderstood"
will surely get a grip on you. If
you are a musician, do not listen
the album for far too long because
your mentality and music perception
would be totally distorted, if you're
not a prog/fusion fan don't even bother
purchasing the copy. The "Ink
Compatible" is for those who
admire the complexity in music and
like seeing their music idols "talk"
a lot with their instruments. Referring
to this category of individuals.
