Silver Devil - Demo 2009

Tracklist:

01. Cactus Kicker
02. Control
03. Lies

I guess everyone reading this webzine knows the difference between a desert and a Swedish mountain. Despite Sweden lacks of deserts (sand deserts of course), this five piece stoner/desert rock band from Gävle (hometown also of doom metal gods Isole) are kicking some serious asses of many bands that are raised under the Texan sun. Of course they kick cactuses as well, but the truth is that in a genre which expires, if not already dead, Silver Devil are giving it a breath of life. This three track demo is the appetizer for the first official full length album, which will be released by their label Infinite Fuzz and follows an array of demos and the EP "Follow Me Down". The band provides seriously great stoner rock and when we say rock, we mean rock; verses, choruses, bridges and solos, without turning to psychedelic long passages and vast noisescapes to cover any inspiration shortcomings. "Cactus Kicker" is the best thing you can have these days in stoner rock with an intense melody that sticks to your mind and will be your first contact with the strange vocals of Anders Löfstrand. No, he doesn't sing in any peculiar way, but the recording and the application of voice filters is making him sound so distant and unearthly. This is a useful addition to their sound and definitely one of their marks. The other is their ability to create strong melodies and rolling rhythms that make instant impact, just like the one in "Lies". You can't expect innovation. They are definitely working on a Fu Manchu basis with a few references from Kuyss and they are using their strong and fuzzy guitars to build a very straightforward kind of music. This is exactly what is needed and therefore their debut is eagerly anticipated.
