Ok. I don't know if Dream Theater did the right move to through out Derek Sherinian from the band. The sure is that when he has all that great musicians in his side as usually in his albums, the results is incredible! Ten tracks are included on his new CD. Four of them are quite good, but far enough from "metal". One is mediocre and the rest five are super!!! The album features an all star line up comprised of John Petrucci, Slash, Yngwie Malmsteen, Zakk Wylde, Simon Philips, Tony Franklin, Billy Idol, Brad Gillis and Brian Tichy. No comments I think! The production is crystal clear and strong enough to blow your speakers and the performance from all members is fantastic. In first track "Czar of Steel" the keys is in battle with Malmsteen's guitar in mid tempo rhythm. On "Man with No Name" Zakk Wylde breaks all the rules with his incredible guitar playing and his singing in the vein of Ozzy. The "Phantom Shufle" is a jazz/fussion track with lot of ‘70s feeling. "Been Here Before" starts with keys reminding me a little of Pink Floyd and then becomes more quick with Malmsteen getting...really mad!!! In next track "On the Moon" the saxophone rules in all song except the solo guitar in the midle. The "Monsoon" starts like a doom song with Sabbath feeling and then Wylde starts his attack with Malmsteen to follow and then Sherinian comes to enjoy the party! "Prelude to Battle" it's a short instrumental with Malmsteen. "Viking Massacre" begins with a stormy guitar rhythm and crazy drumming and then Malmsteen starts to give lessons once again on guitar playing! The CD finished with one cover on "In the Summertime" with Billy Idol on vocals. The new CD from D. Sherinian is on the stores and all the fans of good music must buy it. Get it guys and play it loud!
