New release this year for Derek Sherinian, the virtuoso keyboardist that has recorded songs and participated in bands such as Dream Theater, Kiss, Y. Malmsteen, Alice Cooper, Billy Idol, Platypus, Planet X… Let me take a breath!!! The cd consists of 9 songs and its duration is almost 46 minutes. After listening many times to it, I believe that the only song that doesn't seem to fit with all the others is the "El Flamingo Suave". On the other hand maybe I am wrong but what can I say? I find it too "soft" for my likings.

The amazing opening song "Day of the Dead" left me speechless…. In fact I really can find the words to say what I feel about this "All-Star" release. I feel small in front of these great musicians. I don't know where to start: Allan Holdsworth, Tony Franklin, Brian Tichy, Steve Stevens, Marco Mendoza, Steve Lukather, Jerry Goodman, the great Simon Phillips, John Sykes and my favorite one who is no other than Zakk Wylde (only if he could keep his mouth shut and stop saying all this bullshit about America, then except from a great musician he would also be a good guy). It's very difficult to have all these great musicians in one release but Derek made it possible. But this time there's one missing. I'm talking about Yngwie Malmsteen, but to tell you the truth I don't think I'm going to miss his incessant "blabber".

Listen to "Goin' to Church" with Steve Lukather on the guitar and you'll see what mean. This is a very good release. I don't have anything else to say, except that "Mythology" can only be consider as an "unlucky" release, since it comes after the exceptional "Black Utopia", but don't let this discourage you. Buy and enjoy!!!
