Redemption is an American band that shifts in the field of Power Prog Metal and here they present us their second work. The band was formed in 2000 by the guitarist/keyboardist/songwriter Nic Van Dyk. Because of a friendship, he cooperated with Ray Alder of Fates Warning for a song in his first personal album with Engine. Afterwards they both asked Bernie Versailles (Agent Steel, Engine) on guitar, Jason Rullo (Symphony X) on drums and Rick Mythiasin (Taraxacum, ex-Steel Prophet) on microphone. Like that and with the participation of Alder as a guest star and with Mark Zonder during the summer of 2002 they released their homonymous album. The result was fascinating, as expected, and of course the performances were all great. The songs' style is somewhere between melodic prog and dark power metal.

But let's go to their next album. There were some changes and Chris Quirante replaced Jason Rullo on drums, just as James Sherwood from progsters Primary took over the bass. So with this line up and with Ray Alder on every song as an abiding member, they recorded "The Fullness of Time" with Tommy Newton on production (known by his works with UFO, Helloween, Conception, Ark and so on). The result is once more amazing and in my opinion more mature than it's predecessor. Wondrous melodies in perfect harmony with the dark power points of the songs. Redemption have found the golden section in all of their songs, enough technique to surprise you, not tiring you or being a burden to the power points. A few bands can write 15 minutes songs these days without tiring you (in their first CD there is a 25 minutes epic!!!). Everyone from his position surprises with his performance and I have my mind set on the great Ray Alder for one more time. Unbelievable level, how much better can he get? Very good work by Van Dyck on keyboards and the guitars sow melodies and sharp riffs in different points of the songs. Also Sherwood and Quirante are impressive with their strong gaming! In a few words to conclude it is a CD essential to all of those who are fans of quality metal, immediately it enters the best 10 for 2005.
