This is Power metal!!! This is progressive power metal!!! This is melodic Power/Prog metal!!! Ladies and Gentleman on the red corner, the ultimate melodic metal grandeur, the pride of Denmark weighting 2006 metal kgs, the one and only Pyramaze with their latest masterpiece, entitled "Legend of the Bone Carver". And on the blue corner the rest power metal contenders for 2006 (up to this day). I know, I know, it's an unfair fight, but believe me, they will do their best against the Danish sextet, so sit tight and watch (or maybe listen?!), though I doubt they can win.

I'm not joking neither exaggerating. "Legend of the Bone Carver" touched my heart and soul. Why? Because it doesn't belong in the majority of power metal albums, with silly speedy neoclassical riffs and Hollywood metal like melodies. Yes, whether you like it or not, I hate this type of music. I can't stand it anymore. Every power metal newbie is a new Rhapsody wannabe and now we're full of useless Hollywood/neoclassical metal garbages. This is the bitter truth, whether you like it and accept it or not. I don't mean to insult the fans of the specific genre. You love this music and that's fine with me. I do also like it, but enough is enough. I had it inside me for so long and this was the right time to express my feelings.

Pyramaze's "Legend..." was the spark that lead me to this outburst. A compact melodic power metal album with a progressive "touch". Progressive in the way they enrich their music with ambient keyboard tunes and riffs, adding a dark atmosphere to "Legend's" concept story that deals with the fight between good and evil. The keyword in this work is "balance" just like between good and evil. The riffs of Michael Kammeyer and Toke Skjønnemand are wandering between melodic slow and sharp up-tempo paths. The rhythm section formed by Morten Gade Sørensen and Niels Kvist supports perfectly the mood and genius of the aforementioned guitarists, while Jonah Weingarten's keyboards as I foretold are embracing the hole project with a dark veil of mystery and fantasy, helping the listener to transform melodies into pictures. Last but not least the vocal delivery of Lance King is absolutely magnificent. Emotional, powerful, melodic, a complete power metal vocal package offered to us by an exceptional musician.

Believe me, I was really hesitant at first, but I was left speechless after the first spin. Everyone that shares my opinion on Hollywood metal can follow the new power metal masters. The rest will regret it sooner or later. So make up your mind now before it's too late.
