"Dawn
on Pyther" is the second part
of a trilogy conceived and composed
by Hugo Flores. The first album "Floating
World" narrated the endeavor
of the inhabitants of a dying planet
to move to a new, friendlier environment,
while "Dawn on Pyther"
describes their adventures on their
new home, planet Pyther. The musical
direction has not changed dramatically
since the band’s first album,
but certainly you can change some
differences between them. I could
say that this is equivalent in many
ways to Ayreon’s albums, though
it has another direction. Hugo Flores
has invited in this concept album
several musicians and singers to perform
this story, which is based on progressive
rock layers, mixed with new age, art
rock and -sometimes- metal. The album
is slightly heavier and seems that
this has served the progress between
the two albums. A shortcoming of the
album is that the each track separately
is overloaded by far too many parts,
ideas and melodies. Given that some
melodies are repeated through the
album, this makes it hard to distinguish
the tracks and flattens the album.
There are many calm and serene parts
that are followed by more intense
moments, but they all fail to create
enough contrast and to attract the
listener’s interest. In other
aspects of it, the album is excellently
produced and every participant performs
perfectly, especially the two female
singers, Zara Quiroga and Alda Reis,
who have very nice and warm voices.
The whole atmosphere is quite positive
and relaxing and is addressed to these
moments that someone needs to listen
to something calm and intelligent
at the same time. |
