Another hidden gem
that found its way to my door a year
late and utterly took me by surprise.
An Italian spring chicken that will
be adored not only by those who take
delight in the progressive sound waves,
but also by everyone who likes to
spice them up with garnishes such
as power, speed, and most of all melody.
What's more, it's under a label that
can 99% guarantee about its products
in terms of quality and value for
money. I bet all the progsters out
there know what I'm talking about
and can vouch for that.
Everything about
this release is almost perfect, from
the musicianship of the quintet to
the compositions, all in an absolute
balance that leaves tiredness out
of the picture. A sonic painting bristling
with passion, harmony, pleasant atmosphere,
calmness and puissance at the same
time, placed by the artist in a masterly
manner that provokes our senses and
takes our breath away. I am very pleased
that these guys, capable as they are,
didn't lose their way in a rag-bag
of technicality show off, that usually
works as hindrance. On the contrary,
they found the meaning of success
in the word balance that is evident
throughout the 52 minutes of duration.
The power of the guitars' riffs and
hooks (if there are any in progressive)
is in perfect balance with the alluringly
delicate solo parts while the captivating
ambience of the keys is counterbalanced
by the steady and high-powered rhythm
section. Same goes for Marco Sandron's
vocal delivery, the tempo that changes
pace just like that and finally you,
who by the end of the 9 tracks you
find yourself in a state of equilibrium.
I really hate to resemble this work with anything known so far, but just to give you a clue, imagine Dream Theater (especially on the keyboards), Symphony X, Andromeda and even Pagan's Mind. How do you like it so far? Tempted? Well you should be. These guys put together something special here and you really don't want to miss it.
