To "BE"
or not to "BE" ? That is
the question? It is globally widespread
that Pain of Salvation are one of
the best progressive rock/metal
bands. All the fans around the world
have high expectations for every release
of the band and it is true that albums
such as "Remedy Lane" and
"Entropia" have gained the
approval and the admiration of everyone.
"BE" is Pain of Salvation's
latest release, a release that caused
ambiguous comments and criticisms
from all the music magazines and the
band's fans. Well I have to admit
that bad rumours and criticisms and
the fact that during their promotion
live gigs in Greece, the band performed
a couple of songs from the album didn't
arise my curiosity to purchase it.
But reviews need to be made and so
"BE" is now a part of my
cd-collection. And luckily I would
say!To start with, my humble opinion
is that the album is a very good release
taking it from the view that it is
a Pain Of Salvation release. They
have always performed progressive
from their own perspective, the band
have never composed rather technical
pieces and their music is based on
the modulation of a unique atmosphere
for every of their release. This kind
of atmosphere, rather gloomy and doomy,
sad and sorrow but not miserable,
is surely one of the albums ingredients.
Great and melancholic piano melodies,
unexpected progressive bursts and
a majority of people-stated-opinions
samples are what the listener will
meet in the album. To close with,
"BE" is a descent release
of the band, you will find it brilliant
if your mood meets the albums expectations
and you will love it if you are a
Pain of Salvation fan. And I have
to mention this : Never listen to
others opinion in the field of music.
Make your own decisions by just hearing
every release. It is quite simple.
