Undoubtedly Need are a young, but very promising band. This is their first demo that was released in 2004, but only since a few days came to our hands. Nevertheless it is a very interesting attempt of this young band to introduce properly their music. The first impressing point is that, although this is a demo, "avoidinme" is consisted of eight tracks (total length nearly forty minutes). It is very a full-length release and this is very usual, at least for the Greek underground conditions. The second impressing point is the absolutely amazing cover, which is of high professional standards. The third and most important impressing point is the fact that Need are a very capable band. All eight tracks are at least excellent and they show signs of a hard-working and willing to cope with great things band. They are into progressive metal, representing a wide range of sounds. They have an inherent aggressiveness, in the vein of Pain of Salvation, but they are also following "norms: of recent Fates Warning ("A Pleasant Shade…" era), Queensryche (the sensitive "Soulcerer" could be in "Promise Land") and OSI. A few specimens of extreme vocals or electronic music (e.g. in the multiform "Sick") are also apparent in their music, but everything is there to serve the atmosphere and the purpose of the songs. The whole result is an excellent mixture of sounds under their own personal perspective.

Now, apart form the impressing positive elements, there are also the negative ones. The main one is that the production is bad and treats them unfairly. If they had a better production, then we could talk about the release of the year in Greek underground.

It is most encouraging that Greek underground has been a fruitful field for new progressive bands to evolve. Need are one of these bands and I am sure that they deserve your attention. Contact the band at need@angellight.gr in order to get more info how to purchase this release.
