Back in 1999 a new
interesting and very promising project
band was formed (see Caffery, Basse,
Terrana, Lange, Ratz). The gathering
of these musicians resulted in the
creation of the magnificent "Millenium
Metal", which can be easily included
among the best heavy metal albums
of late. Since then things have changed
a little, especially in the line-up
of the band.
Recently, Metalium
released their 5th album, which I
use in justification of my persistence
to declare myself a devoted fan of
the band (true metalian) since the
very beginning. Mostly mid-tempo heavy
metal, but with also many fast, explosive
compositions, barely modernized, except
of some riffs, which I believe they
absolutely fit in this kind of music.
You all know how "difficult"
it is for a die-hard fan of the so-called
true metal (as we know it the last
7 years, but as far as I'm concerned,
it was and it will always be just
pure heavy metal), to accept some
changes.
What I believe is
that Ratz and his party are trying
to give some breaths of sonic bloom
to a genre full of "waterproof
seals", in order to extend its
life a little longer. The compositions
are very good, not reaching the ones
included in "Millenium",
but still well worthy of your money,
suited for metal fans of all genres.
The sterling performances from all
members and the once more clear and
powerful production are more than
enough to rip off your face and force
you into an endless headbanging.
Bottom-line, Lars
Ratz and his group of metalians are
releasing an album almost every year,
with good outcome that really deserves
your attention. Closing this review,
I wish that the number of "chapters"
will increase year after year and
for more years to come, filling our
ears with Metalium's tunes.
