Knight Area are hailing from Holland and here they present us their second offering titled "Under a New Sign". The moment I got this cd in my hands, I assumed that their music would fall somewhere between epic and power metal, but after reading on the back-cover the name of their label I realized how wrong I was. Laser's Edge is a label that specializes in progressive, whether it's called art rock, or plain rock or metal, without ruling out other qualitative propositions, music-wise.

The cd in question has a very good production, just as the genre demands and totals 55 minutes. Knight Area is consisted of 7 musicians, but it's mainly Gerben Klazinga's and his brother Joop creation, if I've understood well from their biographical note, that is. Their music reminded me a lot of Arena, Spock's Beard, Pendragon and Marillion with the keyboards holding the leading role on the songs. This is pretty natural considering the fact that Garben is the key figure on the compositional aspect. Nice melodies with very good solo parts, well-written and well-worked songs, mainly lengthy, just like the old bands of the genre used to do, offering pleasant moments of listening.

All in all, I think that this cd will be certainly appreciated by the fans of the aforementioned bands and those that dig the specific genre. Their next offering will prove whether they can make the big step forward in order to distinguish themselves from the pile or they will continue on the same motive.
