"The
Garden of the Hesperides" is
the debut album of Hexperos, which
is another duet in the roster of Equilibrium
Music, just like The Moon and the
Nightspirit and Poets to their Beloved.
Hexperos is the new project of Alessandra
Santovito, which was the founding
member of Gothica, and Francesco Forgione.
The duet performs dark neo-classical
music, which due to the minimal orchestrations
in many parts, can be also labelled
as gothic ambient. In "The Garden
of the Hesperides" you will find
many references to Dead Can Dance
and Arcana, but gradually the album
unfolds virtues of movie soundtracks
and eventually builds a self-defined
character. Despite some ethnic elements,
courtesy of string instruments, such
as violins and harp, the album remains
focused to a somber simplicity that
serves the expression of melancholic
and grieved feelings. Alessandra Santovito's
voice is often working as another
instrument that delivers haunting
chants in songs like "Artemisia"
and "Ritual", while in
"Loto Nero" the duet gives
a sensible and fragile performance.
In conclusion it is a very good album,
which is part of the late -high quality-
delivery by Equilibrium Music and
it is highly recommended to the fans
of the genre. |
