Formed back in 2006, Geminy is a
band from Italy claiming to play
progressive metal. Without being
fully misleading, the term is not
representing their sound. Firstly,
because they do not have important
features of the genre and secondly,
because they have more aspects than
the term "progressive" implies.
Geminy is rather a band that follows
traditional power metal forms and
at the same time incorporates many
technical elements. Finally the band
presents another side, that of hard
rock/AOR, as exhibited in "Escape".
Therefore I think that the band addresses
to more fans than those of progressive
metal.
"The Hidden Door" is
a concept demo, which is part of
a wider project. Francesco
Filippone is developing the idea
of a concept album (probably the
first album of the band, which is
going to be entitled "The Prophecy").
The concept refers to the heroic
adventures of Lord Myor, a knight
who is destined to bring back the
peace in the fantastic world of Maraween.
As you may understand, the songs
have also some epic metal perspectives,
mainly expressed by the keyboards
and some vocal lines.
The demo has
several positive aspects and the
band presents some good ideas, especially
in their melodic parts. However the
sound of the band needs serious revision
in the area of compositions, which
need a touch of "maturing".
The band performs fairly well, but
there are also margins of improvement
that the band should exploit. The
demo was recorded and produced by
Tommy Talamanca (Sadist) and maybe
it would need some refinement too.
In general "The Hidden Door" is
a noteworthy demo, despite the few
drawbacks. The positive thing is
that they have a potential and that ‘The
Hidden Door" is simply the
start of their journey. |
