"Resonance
– Live In Poland" is the
newest piece in the row of countless
DVDs produced by Metal Mind Production.
At the same time is the first time
that the camera captures (and consequently
someone publishes) Galahad on stage.
To be honest with you I never heard
of Galahad. I can only remember some
short references in the international
music press and most specific in Classic
Rock Magazine, but beyond that nothing.
So I thought that a release of a Galahad
DVD would be aimless. That's
why they say that ignorance hurts…
If you think the same thing, then
better think twice. If you want to
view on your home screen an epitome
of qualitative progressive rock/metal,
then you have the ideal desire, a
desire that Galahad will satisfy in
the most emphatic way.
Although Stuart Nicholson
in his interview in our webzine detests
the term neo-prog, I can't find
a better way to describe Galahad's
music to you. Galahad is part of this
scene that has bands grown up in the
mid 80's and continued the tradition
of Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd and so
on. But I give him a credit why he
dislikes this kind of sorting. Galahad
is perhaps the band that breaks the
barriers that this scene has and the
whole tracklist of "Resonance"
proves this. "Resonance"
shows evidence of the band's
entire career and together gives significant
amount of time to present the future
of the band. I can't deny the
shivering I felt in "Empires
Never Last", a track that is
going to appear on the next homonym
album. The sound of Galahad is not
mellow and "lyrical" in
the way of the neo-prog bands. Instead
they are much more heavy (and this
way they perform the whole of the
songs) and more epic in their proportions.
Yes, they are pompous too, but the
strength they deliver and the passion
with which they perform their songs,
will certainly make you wonder if
these guys are about forty. They are
outstanding during the whole night
in Wyspianski Theater, Katowice, Poland
and needless to say faultless, if
you are a guy sick with high level
musicianship.
The coverage by the
Polish production team and the direction
is wonderful. I think that after all
those years Metal Mind Productions
have built a very experienced and
professional team. No wonder why so
many artists trust their work. The
only disadvantage in "Resonance"
is the crowd. I think that they could
be more reactive to the interaction
that the band sought for. Instead,
our Polish friends were sitting on
their chairs and did nothing, but
to applaud at the end of the songs.
The DVD has a rich
list of features. Let aside the usual
"rockumentary". These
guys have included an interview that
that band takes from a fan of theirs.
Unique! All the information you want
to know about Galahad is in "Resonance";
seven (!!!) audio tracks, discography,
biography, gallery, interviews, desktop
images, memorabilia and so on.
As a summary I want
to say that there is some very good
music out there and Galahad is one
of the preachers (to loan the symbolism
of Nicholson's dressing in "I
Could Be God") of good music.
I truly hope that "Resonance"
will give Galahad the attention they
deserve, even in a late stage of their
careers. It's not bad. I see
them able to run for many years more. |
