One of the most underrated thrash metal acts of all times is definitely Flotsam and Jetsam and I really can't understand why! Having released 2 gems like "Doomsday for the Deceiver" and "No Place for Disgrace" it's really hard to figure out why they didn't evolved big like some of their thrash comrades in the 80's. Sure they enjoyed some popularity in the beginning, but soon after they were ignored just like that. Why? I believe they had a hand in that with some mediocre to bad releases like "Cuatro", "Drift" and "High", but was it completely their fault? Could they have done better, if they had enjoyed some more attention and recognition from the industry and the fans? Hell yeah, and strong proof is 2005's "Dreams of Death", a damn good offering from a band that never gave up, while last's years DVD (the one in question) showcased the best possible way that this fivesome is still thrashing mad.
Metal Mind Productions is the name, live in Poland is the Game. The DVD was shot in March 8th 2008, at Katowice, Poland while the band was performing for the 22nd edition of the Metal Mania Festival, hence the small tracklist, consisted only of 12 songs lasting roughly 66 minutes. Unfortunately not a single song of the very good "Dreams of Death" is tracklisted here, but you get some old-school blasting pieces in exchange like "Hammerhead", "The Master Sleeps", "No Place for Disgrace", "Doomsday for the Deceiver" and "Escape from Within". As far as I can tell their performance was good, powerful and energetic, trademarks of a lively combo, something that Flotsam and Jetsam demonstrated that night. Frankly, during the watching I caught myself mumbling many times "wish I was there" and I'm sure you'll feel the same once you spin this DVD, which by the way comes also with an interview with Craig Nielsen and Ed Carlson, and a few poor extras features. Not to forget, unlike the other MM DVD productions, the sound is mediocre this time, it could have been a lot more voluminous and sonorous if you ask me. Highly recommended to the fans of the band and those who can afford some extra money for a good buy.
