Fair to Midland come from Texas and are one of the first bands assigned to Serj Tankian's own label, Serjical Strike. This fact could be, on its own, a very good reason for me to check them out. " Fables From a Mayfly: What I Tell You Three Times is True" (that's an interesting title..) consists their first official release but not their first one since they have already released two self-financed recordings. Their music style is a little difficult to be described since it combines many and different elements. The closer characterization that comes to my mind is alternative rock with prog elements and many heavy doses. Imagine something between Muse (with less keys but more riff-y), Coheed and Cambria (without having their heavy/ prog orientation in such a high scale but with harder vocals) and The Mars Volta ( without being so experimental and crazy but more predictable and radio friendly). The whole album breathes out strong emotion and great strength at the same time. I will not stand in anyone of the tracks separately but insteed I'll confess that the album, as a whole, amazed me. The band's members are far from being characterised as "newbies" and are presenting a very mature face. We must not forget that most of the songs were composed quite a few years ago and this album is the result of a long and hardworking period. If they manage to give their sound an even more personal hue we'll probably waiting for wonders by them in the near future. Visit their site to have a little taste of their work or search for the beautiful clip of ‘Dance of the Manatee" across the net. With an excellent sense of melody and an obvious talent in composing qualitative music Fair to Midland are giving us a wonderful debut and make clear that they're here to stay . Remember me…This album is gonna be just the start…
