After almost 3 months
of extreme stupidity and total rip
off (talking about myself), I'm
final here, with Event Horizon X's
third offering stuck in my player
and the urge to share my excitement
with you and convince you, not to
say force you, to get hold of your
copy. But first things first…
Those of you that
haven't read my previous review
on Event Horizon X's second
cd I believe that now is the right
time to do so, before we proceed…Now
that you're back let me tell
you that "Far Across the Wasteland"
is far more better than "Along
Came the Winter" and of course
my favorite one. You won't believe
how smoothly the music flows and how
catchy and energetic it is. It really
caught my attention from the very
first spin and I actually don't
know what the hell I was doing all
this time, except reviewing it. Again
Michael is responsible for everything;
the songwriting, the concept, the
musicianship and so on.
The guitar play is
absolutely stunning, unleashing a
massive amount of overwhelming euro-power-like
riffs, the vocal delivery is very
good, still peculiar (I love the way
Michael changes his voice from low
to hi-pitched) and the rhythm section
is simply dynamic. I once again traced
some signs of drums programming, but
well covered this time; well at least
it doesn't spoil all the fun. He is
definitely influenced from the European
power metal scene and bands like Running
Wild, Helloween, Gamma Ray and the
like, which is very obvious throughout,
but he is blending them the right
way so as not to be characterized
as copycat. Production-wise, he has
done a terrific job, two thumbs up
Michael here.
So are we talking
about a 10/10 release? Not quite.
He definitely has the potential for
creating it, but there are some tiny
details here that cost 1.5 points.
First of all the drums programming,
no matter how well it's hidden
and secondly the cover, once again
I don't like it. Be careful!!!
I'm talking about the whole
layout, just the cover image. Before
closing a few more things I'd
like to add. "Far Across the
Wasteland" comes with a bonus
video track and two wallpapers. And
now tell me this: who the hell in
Greece is "crazy" enough
to spend days or even months preparing
all these and at the same time has
the talent to deliver great music?
What's in it for him? The answer
is simple: only personal satisfaction,
except the one he gives us. Now the
million dollars question for the labels,
especially the domestic ones, is this:
If it isn't Michael choice to
keep going on his own, what the hell
are you waiting for? |
