Eidolon now considered veterans
with their six albums. “The
Parallel Otherworld” is their
latest work that comes to claim
their share from the international
power/thrash metal scene. The changes
in their line up proved beneficial
for the band, as well as their occupation
in other metal bands (to be more
precise in other mega-bands). Otherwise
I can’t explain how did they
return after a period of three years
with an excellent sample of power/thrash
metal? All the metal fanatics will
enjoy this record that follows the
good old recipes of power/thrash
metal of the late ‘80s and
early ‘90s. I want to make
to everyone clear that “The
Parallel Otherworld” is not
a retro manifestation, but it is
dressed appropriately to fit into
the ‘00s sound.
What do you want to listen in here?
From Helstar to Agent Steel and
from King Diamond (“bad”
companies never cease to be) to
Heir Apparent, everything is wrapped
up here and placed in a powerful
package that demonstrates Eidolon’s
freshness and creative spirit. It
is first class power/thrash metal
that doesn’t need to show
signs of brutality in order to be
persuasive. “The Parallel
Otherworld” has some brilliant
moments, like the opening self-titled
track, the following “Arcturus
9”, “1.000 Winters Old”
and “Shadowanderer”.
Nils K. Rue, although he is the
newcomer to the band, seems like
playing years with the rest of the
band and delivers an astonishing
performance, contributing to their
multi-formalism (remember the Heir
Apparent reference before?).
The production is excellent, while
the cover is just another picture
of the familiar “Chain Guy”
(an aesthetic tradition missed from
recent releases of many “innovative”
bands). I really believe that the
fans of the genre do not need other
incentives to invest onto this record.
It is just a matter of time to listen
to “The Parallel Otherworld”
and come to my words.
