Dimeyes come from my hometown and for me their first full length release was a pleasant surprise. To my dismay my hometown has only a handful of good metal bands to show, with most notable, our pride, Death Courier, probably one of the first death metal bands in whole Europe. Dimeyes come many years after this legendary band and they fall into the ranks of progressive metal. They have all that you could ask; skillful performances (my informal resources say that they are studying music in a very professional and dedicated way) and innovative approach. You will hardly listen to common pieces in "Eyesight is Getting Dim". There is a lot of anarchy in the structure of their songs and each one of them unfolds in ways you can't expect. I would be mistaken if I would try to give you some references, just because there are too many elements in their work. For example some parts may remind you Dream Theater, while other will give you the essence of Arcturus. So I think that every description that I will try to give you, will be canceled by something that I will have missed or forget. There is a wealth of ideas and feelings, transformed in melodies and riffs, which create a lot of expectations from this young quintet. Keyboards have a very significant role in their music, which in turn is based on a solid rhythm section and massive guitars. However there are some drawbacks too (that if I am allowed I fully justify, since this is their debut release). The first one is the vocals, which in several points are not so strong and "evident" as the instruments. George P. has a very good voice, with controlled accent (something, which in the majority of Greek bands is a plague), but his approach in building the proper vocal lines is not the one that could tighten the final result. On the other hand he is doing perfectly at the growling vocals that he sparingly uses. Finally I believe that the band should conclude to the mentality of the band. Of course this isn't something mandatory, but I feel that if the band chooses to form a clear character (for example to darken a little bit more), then this will alter the dynamics of their sound. Few drawbacks in the production exist too, but in general the production level is high. I wrote before about the dedicated approach of the band and the pro-printed cover will be another witness; a wonderful piece of work that shows that they have a complete vision for their music. I think that this is a very promising start and I imagine that the band will return with something new (make it soon guys).
