According
to their homepage, Deathvalves is
a wild rock'n'roll band
influenced by Motley Crue and Guns & Roses
amongst others. Those comparisons
though are at least profane, as my
idea of hard rock is something quite
different. I usually try to listen
to an album 4-5 times before reviewing
it, but this time I ran short of
endurance after the 3rd attempt.
To make it clear,
they have a strong resemblance to
Gun Club, Giant Sand or, to mention
a Greek band, Last Drive. For instance,
the instrumental opener reminded
me of "Misirlou". In other words,
lots of alternative influences that
I'll be damned, if they have anything
to do with hard rock. With regard
to the vocals, you have to listen
for yourself; too much whining for
my taste, sorry! The overall songwriting
is too uninspiring, although there
are a couple of songs on which they're
heading to the right direction, like "What
You Say" and "Shadows
of the Demons". Another negative
issue here is the use of English,
which stands in need of necessary
improvement and you can't help
but notice it while you're
reading the lyrics.
In conclusion,
the whole release is on a low level
and almost everything sounds too "grungy" and
unappealing. A lot of hard work is
required in order to get things changed,
I'm afraid. |
