Communic is a new
band from Norway, formed back in 2003
and "Conspiracy in Mind"
is the title of their debut album.
Norway is a country mostly known for
its extreme metal scene but Communic
don't belong in this category as they
play a mix of progressive and power.
So,with this release Communic are
trying to aid a few other groups with
the same origin, like Pagan's Mind
or Age of Silence, to convince us
that there is still life for progressive
in this country after Conception's
break up.
As I wrote above,
in "Conspiracy in Mind"
someone can find seven compositions
of progressive/heavy metal with
a variety of influences reminding
bands from Fates Warning to Nevermore.
In many vocal parts the voice of O.Stensland
and the way he sings reminded me a
lot of Warell Dane. The guitar produces
many heavy riffs and the job behind
the drums is excellent! Something
that will trouble someone and make
him think twice before he buys this
one is the number of tracks included
here. OK, seven tracks don't sound
too many for an album, but that shlould't
worry you because all the songs are
lengthy and their length varies from
six and a half to eleven minutes!
So, in the 57 minutes of the album
Communic manage to combine the complex
and technical progressive play with
great power and many doses of feelings
and melody and finally get to a very
good result! If my words are't enough
for you just listen to "History
Reversed", "They Feed in
our Fear" or "Ocean Bed"
and find out for your own what I mean.
On the other hand, I think that sometimes
the album shows some weaknesses and
Communic repeat themselves. Also,
the duration of a few songs could
be shorter in my opinion but on the
whole I believe that the "positives"
of this release is a lot more than
its weaknesses.
One thing is for
sure, "Conspiracy in Mind"
deserves your attention especially
if you are a fan of progressive/
power metal. This trio from Norway
is very promising and one of the biggest
hopes for this country's non extreme
metal. With this release Communic
show us that they have the norm standards
for a bright future. We'll see…
