This
is a recording of the show filmed
on the 31st October 2007 at the Wyspianski
Theatre, Katowice, Poland, about
five months before the release of
the album. Extra features included,
like a bonus video: The Making of
'She'. Also includes: Biography,
Photo gallery, Desktop images, Web
links, Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
Sound. Enough with the technical
formalities though. The real thing
is this sublime prog rock opera,
which has already been reviewed and
praised in its CD format.
Now let's
focus on this DVD and find out if
it is worth buying it. The musicians
are the same as in CD, the singers
lay themselves out, choirs' costumes
and video walls are here as well,
so what else do you need? Clive Nolan
is great as always, although he doesn't
play any keyboards on stage and on
the other hand, Alan Reed sets a
good example for any progressive
rock performer who'd like to
sing a rock opera. Now the ladies;
Agnieszka Swita is as theatrical
as it gets, delivering her parts
at ease, while Christina Booth often
steals the show with her warm and
tender appearance. The four protagonists
blend into each other and manage
to create a unique event, even if
the stage direction ought to be better,
but we shouldn't forget
the stage incommodity. Another remark
I'd like to make is relevant
to the two different formats; it
would have been a better idea if
both of them had been released as
a digipack edition or if English
subtitles had been included on dvd.
Nevertheless, "She" is
highly recommended, as Caamora (means
ritual cleansing by fire in Nolan's
words) give their all and the power
and the drama is combined with rock
dynamics.
All in all, extraordinary
music performed by extraordinary
people. Last year I saw the exciting
film version of "Phantom
of the Opera" and I wonder
if I'm asking too much for
looking forward to seeing "She" on
film? Perhaps so its
exceptionality will be brought out
entirely. |
