The Greek progressive metal scene is growing and we have signs that is growing in a healthy and steady way. There are a lot of capable bands, like the magnificent Horizon's End, Wastefall, Fragile Vastness and Equal Vector. Art of Simplicity is a young band that was created during the summer of 2003 and comes to join forces with these powers. After two years, which were spend on rehearsals and live appearances, the band manages to release its debut demo. Four impressive songs of progressive metal constitute "Asymmetric", one of which is instrumental. Their songs step on the lyrical side of progressive metal and more specific it's close to Fates Warning, Soul Cages and Sieges Even ("A State of Change" era). The violin that they extensively use brings forth reminisces of a prepotent band of the seventies, It's A Beautiful Day. In fact the use of violin might be their distinctive mark and will open them more gates to uniqueness. Their performance is high and the final result is amazing, if we consider that this is their first effort.

The Athenian band lives with the absence of a permanent singer. However, George Ikosipentakis from Fragile Vastness has covered temporarily this gap and offers to this demo a brilliant performance that sets high standards for the fixed singer that the bands seeks. The main drawback of "Asymmetric" is that at some point the songs (and specifically "In Search of Numb") are very "loose" and the interest decreases. But on the other hand, we have very good tunes, like the opening –instrumental- track "Asymmetric Act" and the powerful "nOThinG". The production, which was done in Fragile Studios (it appears that Fragile Vastness are sort of their mentors), is very good, especially for the Greek standards. It allows us to listen clearly to all the beautiful harmonies of this young quintet.

I think that the band has the potential to find the desired contract and release something more complete. Their demo is distributed from their own address for 4 Euros. You should first contact the band at info@theartofsimplicity.com for more details. I recommend it to all those who search for new and worthy bands.
