At
last it's here. I was impatiently
waiting for a long time the new work
from our Cypriot friends. They had
released 2 amazing demos before this
one that you must undoubtedly get
hold of. To my big disappointment
though, "Road to Macedonia"
isn't exactly what I was expecting
to hear. Let me explain, so as to
avoid any misunderstandings. From
a band of their quality, I was definitely
expecting something more, a brand
new, full length release and not a
demo collection or compilation or
whatever, with the addition of only
3 new tracks. Now let's start from
scratch.
This cd contains
4 tracks from the first demo "Return
to Troy" 4 from the second "Osiris",
with two different versions of "Ivorian"
and 3 new with a well-looked-after
artwork and booklet (lyrics and photos
included). All demo songs are re-recorded
and sound better, but their structure
remains untouched. For those of you
unfamiliar with Arryan Path, let me
say that the style of the songs is
Epic/Heavy metal, with emphasis on
melodic and folk elements. I won't
refer much to the old songs, because
they're simply amazing. Songs
like "Piri Reis", "Osiris"
and "Arryan Path" is unlikely
to be written again and the same goes
more or less for the rest of the demo
songs. Nicholas' voice is simply
shocking, and except that he's
in great shape, he also sounds more
mature!!!!
As for the new ones;
"Road to Macedonia" is fantastic,
with the keyboard adding a folk atmosphere
and some fucking great lyrics, paying
tribute to the glorious Macedonia
(PAOKara reeeee) [Editors note: Please
excuse George's Greeklish].
Epos is the only description I can
think for "Epic for the Sorrowful
Argonaut" that includes some
excellent lyrics dressed with slow
to mid tempo music. Last but not least,
the "Liberation Song". Oh
my God, this is a hell of a song.
I'm totally stunned. An acoustic
masteroiece, including instruments
like piano, harp, flute (if I'm
not mistaken) and atmospheric keys
and as I use to say "it smashed
my mentality". "One picture
stands for a thousands words"
Chinese use to say and in this case
I can rephrase it to "one voice
stands for a thousands words. An absolute
10 goes to this song!!!!
Summing up and leaving
aside my personal desires and expectations
for a full length release, this one
is highly recommended to everyone,
regardless of any musical preferences,
and even if you own the demos you
must buy it, since it has a much more
better sound and booklet, but above
all it includes "Liberation Song". |
