The Dutchmen Another
Messiah are new kids in the neighborhood.
They were formed in 2003, but their
progress is amazing. Early enough
they released a mini CD "Another
Revelation" and now they come
back with their first full length
CD "Dark Dreams My Child".
This is a properly produced release
and the term "produce"
covers all aspects of this release;
from the imposing artwork to the high-standard
sound production of Joost Van Den
Broek. In fact "Dark Dreams
My Child" doesn’t give
the impression of a self-financed
release. It could be easily released
by a medium size level record company.
Anyway, lets leave
the impressive peripherals (that often
play their role) and go into the core,
the music itself. Another Messiah
are into melodic doom/death metal.
They are not following the principle
of slowness, but instead they show
a preference to compact mid-tempo
melodic and melancholic songs. My
Dying Bride of their late records
(for example "The Light at the
End of the World" is present
in here) and Opeth are their main
influences. The sound is very "compact"
as I said. There are no weak songs
or inefficient parts within the songs.
The overall result is very cohesive
and despite the influences it is quite
personal. Apart from their ability
to compose good songs, Another Messiah
reveal another one weapon they possess
in their fight for musical personality.
The extensive use of oboe makes the
music more dark and grieved and in
times reminds the classic music lines
of Haggard. Moreover Robbie J. de
Klerk knows how to manage his very
nice voice and to offer it in the
service of atmosphere and emotion.
All four musicians are very skilled
and effective.
It is obvious that
the band is devoted to what is doing
and, if I am allowed to make any predictions,
I am sure they will achieve great
things. You can visit the band’s
website and order the CD, which is
a really good buying.
