If I'm not mistaken,
back in 1996 Airged L'amh released
a demo tape that made quiet an impression.
Many years later, specifically in
2002, Metal Reunion Records re-released
it, including 2 bonus tracks, which
are also present in their latest full
length release "The Silver Arm".
Once more, these guys surprised me
with the quality they deliver. The
name "Airged L'amh" is French
for Silver Arm and the album is a
concept on an ancient Irish myth.
If I wanted to label
their music, I'd say that it's a mixture
of epic heavy power with numerous
folk elements. Their songs (especially
the… first 8!) are simply amazing!
The rhythm varies from mid to fast
tempo throughout the cd, something
that shelters the music from monotony.
Airged L'amh reminded me of Skyclad
especially on 3 tracks (1, 3, 8),
a little bit of Blind Guardian on
their one and only ballad (same goes
for their demo) and they also brought
to mind a bit of Iron Maiden from
the "Piece of Mind" period
on "The Silver Arm" song.
You can also trace many riffs in the
style of Iced Earth during the whole
duration of the cd, passed through
the band's unique musical filters,
ending up in a remarkable creation.
They are in no case copycats of the
aforementioned bands and they don't
need to be, since their technical
constitution is ideal, as far as I
can tell. The production is very good
and elevates the whole project.
Epic metal made in
Greece in the best possible way, bringing
to mind the glorious years of heavy
metal, talking about the late 80's,
early 90's. If I'm to pick one or
two songs I'd choose "The Silver
Arm" and "Balor of the Evil
Eye". Let's hope it won't take
them this long again, in order to
offer us a new album. |
