Those of you familiar
with Greek underground metal and especially
with the epic/heavy metal genre, you
are probably aware of Acid Rain and
their music, since they have released
two demos and one live recording in
the past. After almost 3 years of
absence they return, at first with
"Revenge" Promo CD consisted
of the homonymous song only and then
with "War in the Sky", a
3-songs demo CD with "Revenge"
being also present. Judging by the
titles of the tracks and the cover
you are pretty certain what these
cd's are all about: Pure epic heavy
metal, with a slight keyboards enrichment.
"War is the
Sky" is a 20 minutes heavy metal
offering with a good production that
meets the standards of the genre,
although I believe that there is always
room for improvement on this aspect,
since sometimes the sound doesn't
seem to be solid enough. Their music
is influenced from bands like Manowar
and Manilla Road (especially on the
vocals), and its main features are:
very good rhythm guitars, nice but
plain solos, stable rhythm section
and strong heavy vocals. The keyboards
are the bands Achilles' heel though.
Their use lacks in inspiration and
timing in many cases. In addition
"War in the Sky" comes with
a very simple but sympathetic layout
that includes lyrics and band info.
All in all this release
is a must for an epic metal die-hard
fan and a good second choice for all
the others. I surely expect more from
Acid Rain but on the whole this is
the best "appetizer" for
the time being and a very good first
step towards the Epic metal throne,
after three years, for Acid Rain.
I don't really know if the demo cd
is for sale, so it would be wise to
contact the band for further details.
As for me, I can't wait for the next
release and their enthronement. |
