The much anticipated second desecration of
Kaamos in Hellas took place in two parts, in
both Thessaloniki and Athens last May. Having
been consumed by their latest effort also, I
didn't miss the chance to see them in Thessaloniki,
that would be a different experience than Athens
due to the crowd and (probably) the sound-handled
by two friends this time.
Kvazar is a local band that has progressed
much from their late Napalm Death approach.
New members and much more diverse tunes from
other extreme genres hooked a minority of the
crowd as they're used to them-they're
often seen in the bill of a gig, despite the
fact that their show was more than just an appetizer!
Surely a full-length album will be much indicative
of their talent.

Ex-Nuclear Winter -but still deadly- Dead Congregation
followed, having in their ranks the half of
Inveracity plus an experienced in black metal
bands guitarist, all of them accompanying mainman
Anastasis (also owner of the respectful ug label
Nuclear Winter). Their new stuff, mini LP "Purifying
Consecrated Ground" plus tracks from their
forthcoming album seems to follow the likes
of their guitarist/vocalist, which are obscure
deathmetal the American way, the Immolation/Incantation
way (and not only those!). Unholy death metal
executed pretty well, with good sound and stage
appearance, obviously worked and pretty much
promising for an underground act! The thick
and clear sound helped a lot to win even the
last attendant with fierce blasts and unholy
mid-tempo passages that lasted approx. 45 mins.
Eager to listen to their forthcoming full-length
opus!

Kaamos have quickly gained a good following
in Hellas, that is growing all the time. As
I learnt afterwards, these would be their last
shows in a club as they will disband (for reasons
I promised to keep secret) after their live
show in PartySan. Sadly, one of the finest ambassadors
of true death metal is calling it quits. Later
on I learnt that the same goes for Verminous
(whose guitarist, Pelle, is the little brother
of Kaamos' skinman, Chris). Unlike their first
show in Athens, 3 years ago, and up to my expectations,
the sound was really powerful, not to mention
the band's performance! "Black Revelation"
was followed by the already 8 year old "Blood
Of Chaos" and then the current of thelemic
shadows covered the venue with "Lucifer
Rising", "Khem", "Corpus
Vermis" and a total of 8 more songs, two
of which were totally new and really amazing
"Seven Demons" and "Scales Of
Leviathan" -the last one closing the gig
in a very heavy, almost dark doom-ish way. More
than 150 figures were pleased by this performance
and the revelry went on-I hope the new gems
of Kaamos will be unleashed sometime and that
we haven't heard the last blasphemic words from
the band.
