Turned out as a great evening
to crash my scull that one, Britain has been on
the map of some killer ug events recently and
arriving at the venue I saw a lot of people -not
being sure if they were real maniacs as they looked
like or follow the recent hype though- outside
Underworld Club and a lot more inside. The
social part of the pre-show beer-consuming ended
up missing all but one song from the British Reign
of Erebus, which wasn't that much Emperor-alike
as I knew them. Remember that Emperor were really
popular in the UK back in the mid & late '90s
and it was unavoidable that at least one good
band in the same vein would appear.
Then, walking to the frontline
as I've always been a fan of the works of P. Helmkamp
(f), I witnessed a hell of a show by Revenge who
are certainly deadlier than in their albums. Especially
the mid-tempo breaks in between the cyclones of
malice where even more pounding evil and exaggerating.
The crowd was taken by force under the introductive
maelstrom "Decimator Antichrist" and
despite some sound problems in the very beginning,
fistbanging and furious reactions replaced the
first excitement. J. Read behind the drums was
headbanging like a maniac aaaaall the time and
P.H.'s voice, spit forth one of the deadliest
venoms in today's death/black metal. Revenge are
not to be missed, if they invade a town near you,
join!
Following the tornado from Canada
was aussie scums Destroyer 696 who I have last
seen unleashing the wardogs 5 years ago, in Germany.
Covering all their career, they got the crowd
by their side with an absolute hellmetallic performance
and tunes no one could resist banging his head
(or moshing & stagediving): "Raped",
"Black City, Black Fire", "Genesis
To Genocide", "Australian & Antichrist",
"LoneWolf Winter" (aaaarrrggghhh!),
"The Eternal Glory Of War", "A
Breed Apart" and more! Overall, despite how
good it has been their set was a bit short and
let the wolves & mountain lions hungry for
more. Yet, I cannot deny that much blood was shed
that night. What's next to absorb? Gospel of the
Horns or Grenade on stage maybe? |
