In
a short time, Frost were back to Hellas accompanied
by the usual suspects Kreator, for a pretty much
promising live show. A great number of people
of all ages plus some foreigners were gathered
outside the venue, waiting patiently. When the
swiss (plus former Cadaver (nor) guitarist and
live session Anders Odden, ) got on stage we couldn’t
deny the reverent appeal of Martin E. Ain, clad
like a priest preaching death, hence the heptagram
backdrop was at the right place! A total worship
of low-tuned guitar sound, with the old necrorgasmic
classics deadlier and some faster tunes even faster.
Covering mostly their 3 first albums plus some
great tunes from their latest output, "Monotheist",
Frost undeniably delivered one of the most ecstatic
shows I’ve even been to, with a vibe and
edge similar to death grunts of a crawling, chaotic
forthcoming doom. Kicking in with "Procreation
(Of The Wicked)" and spelling curses like
"Dethroned Emperor", "Circle
Of The Tyrants", "Dethroned Emperor",
"Into The Crypts Of Rays", "Morbid
Tales", "Dawn Of Megiddo", "The
Usurper", "Sorrows Of The Moon",
"Visions Of Mortality", "Mesmerized",
"Necromantical Screams", "Rex
Irae", "Ain Elohim" & "Synagoga
Satanae", a seriously frugal but effective
attitude, they absolutely left no serious person
unsatisfied. Probably most were enraptured, proving
that the return of the GODS really has something
to say. Initiative. Triumph.
Kreator began with an annoying
delay, and despite that, only few had left. That
was the fourth time I’d see them, and since
almost everybody has witnessed in that infamous
official DVD of theirs, they’re just a pleasure
on stage. Well, this occasion was different. The
voice of Mille was in a bad condition, between
the screams of the past, the more "accessible"
ones of today and an obvious exhaust. Adding to
this, the majority of their set was based upon
their latest opuses, as natural, with just one
surprise from the past ("Some Pain Will
Last"). "Enemy Of God", "Impossible
Brutality", "Violent Revolution",
"Phobia" "Flag Of Hate",
"Tormentor", "Betrayer",
"Renewal", "People Of The Lie",
"Extreme Aggressions"…In between
the songs Mille was not just introducing the next,
he was becoming more than fluent and at the same
time boring, something that started annoying people,
especially of the bigger ages (the average age
of that night in the venue is estimated to have
been bigger than 25 years). So, it wasn’t
only an incident but a growing, tiring situation.
Amusement is OK, but I wasn’t pleased at
all, just waited to listen to some past thundering
tune that they haven’t added to their set
‘til now, something that didn’t happen.
So, the night passed and what was left was a glorious
Celtic Frost appearance plus a faded Kreator one.
