Hi
Kostas, first of congratulations for
your newest album, it was a huge step
forward compared it with your previous
releases.
Hi Antonis and thank
you very much.
Because you
aren't a new band, but maybe some
of our readers don't know you or your
music, can you tell us the top moments
of your career?
Ok... Let me give
you a small biography of the band...
Memorain was formed in 1999 and in
2001 we released our first demo-cd
titled "Until You Die".
In 2002 we sign a contract with NMC
Music for two albums and a few months
later we released our first album
"Digital Crimes". In 2003
we released our second album titled
"White Line", featuring
James Murphy from Testament, Obituary,
Death. Also that years we composed
the music theme for the TV Metal show
TV War, a show supported by the Greek
Metal Hammer. In 2005 we signed a
deal with EMI Music and a month ago
we released our third album "Reduced
To Ashes". In this album we had
the chance to work with Nick Menza
(Megadeth) and with Jeff Waters from
Annihilator, who recorded a solo as
a guest. We also contributed songs
to numerous compilation albums for
labels from all around the world.
At least
for the Greek metal scene, it was
a huge surprise that you get a deal
with EMI music, after the end of your
co-operation with NMC Records. So
far, in these eight months, how do
you see the help from EMI?
Yes
we are very happy with EMI. They really
supporting us, and until now we don't
have any problems with them.
You have
chosen "Reduced to Ashes"
as the title of this album, why you
choose it?
I think that musically
is representing the whole album, also
we all really like the subject of
the lyrics. You know, it was Nick's
idea at the beginning to use a song
like this for the title of the album.
We thought that it was a great idea
so we used it.
Tell us some
details from the recording sessions
of this record.
We spent so many
hours in studio for the songs, it
was like second home for us. We start
working in Los Angeles, at Nick's
personal studio, for almost 12 hours
every day, and when we came back here
we continue with the same way. It
was really hard for us, but we were
so exciting with the progress, and
that made us to pass all the problems
that we found in our way.
And now the
huge surprise. You have behind the
drums the one Nick Menza and as a
guest Jeff Waters, how you get in
contact with these heroes of metal
scene and what things did you get
with their co-operation.
It was really great
for us that we had the chance to work
with those great musicians, we learned
so many things. I can't tell any details
about how the contact was made with
Nick or Jeff because Ilias was the
person who arrange all this, but I
can tell you for sure that we are
very happy with the co-operation.
Especially with Nick, because he really
took the songs and put them into a
higher level.
It's almost
ten days in the music stores your
album, how is the reaction from the
press and the fans so far?
Until now the reactions
are really perfect from all the magazines
around the world. We are very happy
and proud for our work and it's really
great to see people recognize the
hard work that you did.
Your first
band had the name "Second Hell",
what do you remember from those days?
The first thing that
is coming into my mind is crazy-school
days, when as teenagers our only dream
was to play in a rock band. It was
really great, you know, no worries
- nothing.
When you
started Memorain, did you believe
that you will have this progress through
the seven years of existence?
To be honest with
you no. But watching back now it seems
very logical, because with hard work
anything it's possible.
As the bass
player of the band, you are the silent
power of Memorain, which are your
influences?
The silent power...
that is really funny!!! My biggest
influence is Jason Newsted.
Do
you have any future plans in order
to support your newest album?
We are trying to
arrange some live shows but it's very
soon to give you any details right
now.
You have
written more than forty tracks so
far, what is your most favorite one?
Most of all I can
say that I like "Charge".
It's high-tempo song with powerful
riffs. I really enjoy performing this
song.
Thank you
for your time Kostas and if I have
forgotten to ask you something you
can add it here.
Thank you for the
interview Antonis and take care.
