Hello JB,
nice talking to you.
Hello, pleased to
meet you.
You've
got a new CD out in the market, which
is receiving very good reviews by
now. Did you expect this positive
reaction? What were (and still are)
your expectations about it?
I was certainly hoping
for a positive reaction, we are quite
pleased with the way the album came
out and I think it stands out a bit
compared to most of the stuff that's
out there, you know? I think that
Monument will take us to another level.

I believe
that "Monument" is heavier
than your debut CD and closer to the
doom metal music idiom. What was the
main reason for this evolving?
Metal has always
been my main interest and Grand Magus
is a metal band. The first album was
a bit bluesier than we had expected
and we wanted to make sure that Monument
had less of that and more of a straightforward
metal feel. I think that people who
has seen us live know that we're
a metal band and that Monument is
a logical progression from the debut
album.
Do you accept
of the use of labels? You see there
is a debate about what is doom metal,
heavy rock or stoner rock that has
damaged the reputation of many valuable
bands.
I
know that there are people out there
who instinctively know what we're
about and for them the labels are
unimportant. Personally, I don't
give a flying fuck about any"movement"
or "genre". I'm not
interested in most bands and what
they do and I don't feel that
Grand Magus is part of any kind of
movement or genre. If you wanted to
put us in a box, I would say that
we have more in common with bands
like Bathory or Immortal than with
any "stoner" or "70's"
bands.
Could you
give us more information about this
excellent, but also enigmatic cover
you have?
He who seeks shall
find….
You also
participate in Spiritual Beggars.
Do you think that this participation
will help even more "Grand Magus"
in spreading their name?
Yes, absolutely.
There is no doubt that me being in
Beggars has helped in getting Magus
more well-known and recognized. Hopefully
it will help us to sell more albums
as well!
Something
last about your participation in Beggars.
What is your main priority, Grand
Magus or Spiritual Beggars?
Grand Magus
Do the other
members in Grand Magus play in other
projects or normal bands as you do?
Yes, Fox is doing
another project called "Bajen
Death Cult".
Who are consisting
the "Brotherhood of Sleep"?
You use very interesting titles and
I am curious to know what is the main
themes you like to write lyrics about.
The
main themes are all about life and
death, what people usually call Philosophy.
You know, how you live your life,
what decisions you make and what effect
those decisions will have on your
life. In addition, the lyrics are
all connected with the power of the
human mind and the power of nature
and the absolute stupidity of christianity,
islam and the other missionary religions.
Be a free man/woman and think for
yourself, don't surrender to
lies and dogma. Listen to your need
for a bond with nature and its gifts.
There are some definite messages in
my lyrics, but I don't want
to explain them in detail in interviews.
Some people will know exactly what
they're about.
You have
visited Greece once for the live appearance
with Spiritual Beggars. What were
your impressions for the Greek audience
and would you like to visit our land
with Grand Magus?
I think that the
Greek audience is probably one of
the best true metal audiences in the
world. I would absolutely love to
play in Greece with Magus. I think
Magus and a Greek audience would be
an awesome combination.
In your site
you promote a lot your image as a
live band. Do you plan to tour with
Grand Magus or are your programs too
heavy to do so?
We
are definitely going to tour, probably
early 2004. I don't have any
specific datesyet, but it will happen.
I believe
that there is a close connection between
Sweden and the U.K. Many UK bands
had Swedish members, many of the Swedish
bands have found British record labels,
you visit UK constantly for live appearances.
Do you think that there is a plain
explanation about it or it just happens?
I think we have a
similar way of thinking and we share
a similar sense of humour that is
different from the rest of Europe.
Those are the most important factors
I think.
That's
all JB. I hope you enjoyed this interview.
Thanks a lot for your time talking
to us.
My pleasure. I sincerely
hope that we can come to Greece and
play some metal for you. Stand tall
and remember that the whole and sole
purpose of all true magickal training
is to become free from all limitations…
