Alexander
hi. Thank you for your kindness
to provide us an interview. Would
you like to give us some historical
details about Dis Pater?
Band was formed at 1993. We had
no any ideas about music we shall
play, but we just wanted to do something
together. That time we were under
influence of bands such as Paradise
Lost, Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera,
and something like that. We had
no any experience about how to make
music, and our first steps were
so poor, that one word which I can
say about it - bullshit. Yeah. As
example, just can say, that first
time in my life I took the bass
guitar only on first rehearsal.
Same with a drummer. Only today
I can recognize, that on our first
gig we looked very stupid.
You have released your
latest album "The Princess
of the Emerald Garden". What
is the response of the audience
to it?
We never think about it. Banal
to say, but originally we do our
music for our satisfaction, and
not care about any reviews. But
we really happy, when somebody says:
"Guys, you are so cool…
and etc."?. Concerning this
latest album, yeah, we getting very
good reviews for it, which no doubt
very nice for our ambitions.
Why did you choose to release
it through the Internet and to provide
full access to the songs?
This
is not quite correct. Our CD was
released by Russian label "CD-Maximum".
MP-3 files in internet is not release,
but like "try and bye"
only. Means, that quality of that
tracks is far apart from quality
of CD. So if anybody download our
mp3 tracks and like it, he can order
original CD with better sound.
You mention in your short
biographical note that "from
the moment of the band creation
Dis Pater have played many styles
of metal music, but last 5 years
it's a version of Doom-metal".
Would you like to tell us which
other metal styles have you followed
during the past years?
I am not even sure, that they were
"metal styles". We began
with something like "gothic
post punk", and then always
tried to develop our music to more
aggressive metal. But whatever we
done, we always returned to slower-melancholically-doom
sound. And finally we decided that
doom metal is a best style, where
we can open ourselves best.
Why did you preferred to
play gothic doom metal?
I do not know, maybe it our calling.
We cannot play another music, but
we tried ?.
Would you like to tell
us some of your influences and the
bands that contributed to the formation
of your sound?
At
every moment of life, we like different
music, different styles. But 2 bands
which always followed us in our
creation - "My Dying Bride"
and "Anathema". I am not
speaking about some riffs or sound,
but this is a something inside,
feelings, which I believe unite
us.
You perform gothic doom
metal in a poetic way. Are there
any other influences, apart from
the musical ones, that help you
to create your atmosphere?
For me difficult to say, how it
creates. All around of us. Sorry,
it's out of our control and understanding.
"Dis Pater" is
another name for Hades, the ancient
Greek god of the underworld. Why
did you choose this name and how
it correlates with your musical
identity?
The problem is that we do not know
what kind of music shall we play
next year. Maybe it will be "Black
Metal" or something like that.
In this case name Dis Pater will
be more suitable ?. We have called
the band Dis Pater many years ago,
and for that moment we felt us.
As angry-evil guys, exactly like
that man Dis-Pater. ? . Today Dis
Pater for us - just name of our
band and we do not care about anything
else. It sounds well.
You employ both clean and
growling male vocals. Have you ever
thought of adding female vocals
in your music or are you afraid
that your sound will become too
typical?
Hmm.
Sometimes we think about it, but
firstly we must create a song, where
this vocal will be more appropriate.
As I think, we did not created such
song, yet.
You are established as
one of the best gothic bands in
CIS countries. Do you think that
it's time to aim to the West?
"West" will call us when
decide that there not enough bands
like ours. We are waiting…
What is your opinion about
the Russian metal scene? Are there
any good bands that could be worth
checking out? Do you think that
certain geographical and social
conditions prevent these bands from
publicity?
Music does not know bounds. And
if band is being worthy of fame,
it will be famous. Now Internet
gives to bands possibility to be
known everywhere. No doubt, say,
"Cradle of Filth" in better
conditions, they are living in place,
which is best for promotion of such
music. But from another side, I
think in UK many bands about which
existence nobody knows. Like here…
How difficult is to play,
record and circulate metal music
in Russia?
We like to do it, so it's not difficult
for us. But I hate to record. All
the day to play one short part of
track - it can kill anybody…?
Do you play often live?
How easy is to reproduce your music
on stage?
Not
very often, but constantly. And
always different. All depends from
sound engineer. If sound tuned well
and all of us hear everything well,
we just satisfying. But when I ask
myself: "What's this guy (guitarist,
drummer) playing, I hear only noise,
and trying to catch the rhythm only
by lights blinking - it's a time
spending in vain, we should better
sit at home, and watch movie…
You mention in your website
that you are looking for a label
to release your records. Are there
any offers by now and what are your
demands from a label?
Unfortunately we have no possibility
to update our site with a fresh
info. For this moment we signed
contract with CD-Maximum for latest
album. And now we are looking for
label, which can assist us in recording
next-one.
That's all from me Alexander.
Thank you once again for the interview
and I wish you all the best for
Dis Pater.
Thanks for good questions.
