Dear Nick, hi. First of
all I would like to welcome you
to our webzine and I would like
also to congratulate you for your
first self-financed album.
My warmest greetings Sir! Thanx
a billion for your compliments.
It is very unusual for
the Greek standards to start with
an album. Is it actually a full
length official release or maybe
an extended demo that will test
your powers and the feedback of
the world?
Well, right from the very beginning
we've regarded "Eyesight…"
as a full length attempt. It's
also a fine chance to check what
people may think of our music and
its recording process was certainly
a jump-start at an era when we were
seeking some motivation as to further
focus on our songs.
What are the responses
you take back from the various magazines
and webzines?
Actually, your review is the first
one we have received and we really
dug it. We expect similar spirits
from the ones to come.
What is exactly your story
so far? What is your background?
I mean do you have participated
in other bands?
We've been in this band for 5 years
more or less and therefore this
current line-up is its very core.
As far as other bands are concerned,
George and Elias were in World Beyond
band when at High school whilst
also Elias used to be Utmost Contempt's
vocalist and is responsible for
many productions ( a busy man, huh?).As
for Andrew and me, we had also participated
in a couple of bands, yet their
recorded proofs are few or even
non-existent.
How would you describe
your music? Do you think that we
can attach one single label on your
sound, e.g. progressive, or is it
too constraining?
Progressive's fine, provided that
the term's connected to open-mindedness
and the natural melting together
of different musical styles rather
than to explosions of vanity accompanying
a squeezing lemon, which result
in a mostly dubious outcome. "Art
rock" has also been attributed
to our stuff by Mr. C.Hatzistamou
and paraphrasing it, we sometimes
use the term "art metal"
too.
Is there a particular vision
behind the formation of the band?
Sure. A dim one?. Anyhow, we like
the process of writing songs and
expressing ourselves via them, yet
sadly it's quite-if not totally-
futile to expect something more.
If I might be a trifle bolder…
Andrew-being an obsessive womanizer-is
in for the chicks, Elias is in for
the weed, George's a great sucker
for chicks on weed, while my intent's
even more morbid and abject to be
penned down.

Dimeyes is an unusual
name. Moreover it sounds like the
word "Demise"? Is there
any wordplay behind your name or
just it occurred?
Way to go! Our name did not cross
my mind out of the blue ("out
of the blues" seems more appropriate).
Further more, "Dim eyes"
and "demise" relate
to each other in a clear way to
my mind and I deem anyone can ponder
over it and give their personal
explanations. It would be also more
accurate to state that I have witnessed
this connection rather than imagine
it.
What are the issues you
treat in your songs? The titles
are quite fancy and to some degree
provoking, so can you tell us a
few things about it?
Well, there's a lot of personal
stuff there (monstrously egoistic
muthas, huh?) pretty hard to verbalize
explicitly. Most of the time, the
subjects unfold in an abstract and
general way greatly assisted by
the confusing titles we are fond
of. Consequently, the songs might
as well conceal what we aim to express
rather than reveal it.
The artwork is very good
and has an artistic essence. Can
you give us more details about it?
Thanx a lot! The artwork is based
on works by O. Redon, carefully
chosen and abused so as to add a
sweetly sour shade to the songs.
We live in the same city
so it's a first class chance to
share opinions about the scene.
Why do you think that the bands
from Patras fail to impress or do
not succeed to cross the tight boundaries
of the city?
I'm not quite sure, but it's
such a pity! It is a fact though
that we lack appropriate places
that could hold a live concert and
dash it!!! I might be bringing owls
to Athens now, but I see them diminishing.
I don't really intend to be
either mean-spirited or Cassandr,a
but all this is bound to contribute
to the deteriorating of the whole
situation and make our small city
even poorer.
Being on the side of the
musician, do you believe that there
is a potential in our bands?
As for the potential of the bands,
I think that there's an awesome
one, an exceptional one. Moreover,
not only is the quality really high,
but it also covers a vast range
of styles from jazz to avant-garde
and even to extreme genres. Maybe
we could derive some explanation
from conspiracy scenario,s but I
strongly hesitate to accept and/or
make use of them.
To close this issue, do
you think that there is a problem
of synergies? Because I think that
to some extend we do not know how
to cooperate.
To some extent, this is correct
although there are some brilliant
exceptions. To put it succinctly,
maybe the problems are mainly due
to the difficulties lying in the
synchronization of 4-5 people's
moods, desires and time as well
as the lack of discipline and will.
Do you plan any live appearances
in order to promote "Eyesight
is Getting Dim"?
This aspect of ours is really
uncertain. Currently, we don't have
a bass player in our ranks whilst
our key-man will move to Zurich
in February for reasons of studies
(or so he claims…). Hence,
only if we hap to find a bassist
before that we may make it for a
couple of live appearances.
What are your future plans?
We are rehearsing and preparing
some new material right now so as
to make our sophomore recording
attempt. Our further future we ignore.
:)
Dear Nick thank you very
much for speaking to our webzine.
I wish you all the best in "Eyesight
is Getting Dim" and to all
of you.
We honestly feel grateful for your
support, interview and review. Hopefully,
I was not overly verbose. Take care
and all the best.
