Dear
Marcin hi. First of all thank you
very much for your kindness to speak
to Metal Perspective.
We also wish to thank
you for being interested to promote
us among your Readers. Hello and big
howdy to everyone!
"The
Event Horizon" is now out to
the stores. It's been a long time
since your last official full-length
release so I would like to know how
you feel about it.
We're extremely happy
that it's been finally recorded and
released. This new album with a new
vocalist is our next step on the path
we started, to follow some time ago.
But it's also something totally different
- the sum of all our experiences;
as for today - we feel very satisfied
with it. We tried our best in order
to saturate the whole material with
dark mysticism.
Can you give
us some details about the recording
procedure? Was something special or
something new during this period of
preparation that contributed to the
final result?
Well, everything
went very traditionally, however we
decided to make the least use of computer
corrections, as we hate all those
plastic productions, full of artificial
sounds. Besides, the final result
was mostly based on our brainstormy
discussions, and sometimes even quarrels!
What were
the reasons for this long-term absence?
Our line-up has changed
a bit, and - as a result - our approach
to music, as well. We always wanted
to finish the new album, but there
was always something in the way. We
parted from our former vocalist, we
lost our drummer, then it was really
hard to gather everyone together in
the studio at one time, and so on…
How would
you describe "The Event Horizon"
compared to "Prelude to a Sentimental
Journey"? Apparently is more
modern, but I would like to hear your
own opinion.
As we said, it's
totally different - and it would be
futile to seek any continuation of
our previous songs on the new album.
We constantly evolve, and that's why
we find creating the same things on
and on absolutely senseless, because
the real Act of Creation in Art depends
on never-ending transformations.
I guess that
you will agree when I say that competition
is much more intense these days with
all these bands. Which feature of
Cemetery of Scream do you think is
more attractive to the fans? In other
words why should someone prefer "The
Event Horizon"
Well, we're not afraid
of any competition because music -
both for artists and fans - is Art,
not merchandise. But it has to be
merchandise for modern labels as they
live on selling their products. We
are a branded band on the music market,
all because of our hard work and going
against the flow. We do not compete
with any other artists, just the opposite:
we cooperate with them and help them
develop. All we want is compose good
music with many untypical ideas included,
and we believe our new album may be
attractive to our fans, due to its
alchemically innovated form.

I believe
that "The Event Horizon"
reflects the overall state in atmospheric
metal scene today. Do you agree with
this?
To some extent, yes,
we do. But we are far from generalizing
things, since it could harm the individual
element hidden as a special message
in every good piece of music. "The
Event Horizon" is our meditation
and reflection on the conflict between
the modern world and the old one.
Are you satisfied
with the issues of production and
cover?
From the perspective
of the time passed, we're never fully
satisfied with what we've already
done, so this time, it is the same
as usual - we would have done many
things differently, but it's too late
to change anything, so we have to
move forward. Next time, knowing the
mistakes we've made, we'll do everything
much more carefully and thus far better.
As to the graphic concepts, we always
choose perfectly fitting masterpieces
of art, and such is our new cover
- an artistic photography taken by
a famous Lithuanian photographic artist,
Mr Remigijus Treigys. We are enchanted
with his vision, it goes so well with
the music and lyrics on our latest
release.
Can you give
us some information on the cover?
There are some figures on the cover.
Is it a reference to you? How is it
connected to the title of the album?
In a sense, one could
interpret the figures as the band
musicians, another could think it
might be some listeners. We never
force any interpretations into anyone,
we only suggest them, slightly. Anyway,
we realize the fact that the cover
is very suggestive itself.
Which are
your future plans? Concerning the
fact that you are under the umbrella
of a company that has produced some
of the finest DVDs ever do you feel
ready to release a DVD?
We're currently thinking
about making a video-clip to the "Prophet"
track, it will take time, however.
It's not going to be an ordinary video.
We cannot betray more of the secret
- we don't want to push our luck.
And what
about touring? Is going to be only
on Polish ground or are you going
to visit countries as well?
We'll tour both Poland
and the rest of Europe on the occasion
of "The Event Horizon" soon,
but still we're learning to play the
tracks in their special live versions.
We also feel very attracted to the
East, as people there are still very
openhearted to music, they come in
thousands to watch rock gigs! And
last but not least - we do wish to
play a few concert in Greece, as its
ancient culture and powerful atmosphere
would certainly add much to our music,
needless to mention what a musical
nation you are! So we're excited!
You are almost
fifteen years on the scene. I would
like to turn back and remember one
positive and one negative moment of
your careers.
All our moments have
always been positive cos we love playing
gigs together and recording new things,
but we also had one negative moment
- our biggest mistake, when we once
disagreed to sign a contract with
Nuclear Blast. We simply wanted to
be honest to those who kept us obliged,
that's all, but now we regret our
decision.
Speaking
of your career you have lived the
scene in various times and periods,
from fully underground and pen-based
to internet. Which period is more
pleasant for you and why?
We're sentimental
about all the periods. Surely, the
Internet has changed everything, but
I guess you remember those days when
photocopied fanzines were in fashion.
It was so cute. It's really easy to
make a fansite on the net, but publishing
your own fanzine means much more effort.
Pity this world is becoming so dehumanized
and computerized, at the moment. Sometimes
it's a blessing, sometimes a curse.
Everything depends on people, not
on their inventions.
Marcin this
is the end and I would like to thank
you for sharing your time with us.
I wish you all the best with your
new release.
Thanks for the interview,
too. Greetings to you , your colleague
journalists and, most of all, to your
dear Readers! Take care and keep the
faith, and never listen to shitty,
synthetic music. Stay dark! |
