Conquest of Steel

Hi there, since this is our first interview please tell me a short debrief of the history from Conquest of Steel.

Conquest of Steel formed when we decided that the world had had enough of all the shit forms of 'heavy' music that were around at the time, and decided that it was time to bring back the true power of the 1980's by forming a band that was dedicated to playing 1980's influenced True Heavy Metal. The focus of the band is our live performance. Every show is filled with the Power and Steel of 1980's Heavy Metal and the performance is one that can never be forgotten. Skulls, Spikes, Bullets, Denim and Leather, Swords, Beer and a raging crowd are the constituent parts of a Conquest of Steel show. It has to be seen to be believed! Since forming, Conquest of Steel has released one demo (Priests of Metal), a split 12" vinyl (Stadiums of Steel) with Evanesce, and our debut album, simply titled 'Conquest of Steel'. We have played gigs far and wide and play around 50 gigs a year, with shows in the UK and mainland Europe. The True Power of the Steel will Conquer all comers!!

D.D. DangerWhy did you choose this name for the band, is it a story behind it?

The story is short and simple; Conquest of Steel stands for True Heavy Metal. We will battle on for Metal and fight the cause of Heavy Metal; none can face the Steel and survive!

Tell me some details about the recording sessions of your latest work.

We recorded the album at Red Flag Studios under the watchful eye of Farrow Bros. We recorded the drums and guitars in a one week session, and after that the vocals and bass were laid down and we completed the mix sometime later. Unfortunately the first mix lacked the power and rawness that we required and we therefore had to go back to the studio to remix the album. The second mix was much more satisfactory and we were eventually pleased with the outcome of the album; an album that contains the rawness of the early 80's combined with enough Power to rend even the most faithful Metalhead unconscious!

What is the reaction from the press so far on your latest release?

All the press that we have had has been very positive. We have received excellent reviews from around the world (fanzines, e-zines and magazines) and are pleased with how much people are enjoying listening to a True Heavy Metal Band from the UK! We have had great support from the mainstream Metal press in the UK (which is quite surprising!) and have managed to secure feature articles to promote the band, and the cause of True Heavy Metal to the masses!

DanCan you tell me some words about the lyrics?

The lyrics all glorify Heavy Metal, and describe in one way or another, our love for the greatest of all music styles. They describe the passion for Heavy Metal that burns inside all of us, and show how we will stand proud and defend the honour of Metal 'till the end!

Do you have any future plans in order to support it?

Our plans are the same as they have always been. To play as many gigs to as many people as possible to let them witness Conquest of Steel live in the flesh, so that they can see how great True Heavy Metal is and how even in this day and age Heavy Metal can triumph over all other forms of 'music'.

Are you satisfied with the help from your record label?

No Face Records have done us a great honour by releasing our material. They have worked hard to push the band and to get our album in the shops. Our contract is open after this album and we will be looking to sign with a bigger label who can give us the push that we deserve, but we will always remember the hard work that the people at No Face Records have put into the band.

Diesel & DanCan you tell me some words about the whole artwork?

All of the Conquest of Steel artwork has been drawn by Dee Myers, the mother of a friend of the band. We are extremely pleased with all the pieces that she has drawn for us and will continue to commission works from her, as she understands our vision. The artwork for 'Conquest of Steel' was based on a photograph of the band, and has been altered to make us look even more metal than we do in the flesh! The artwork fits with the music and compliments it to bring the complete package of True Heavy Metal to the fans!

What were your feelings when you saw your album in the music stores?

It was a great feeling walking into a record store and seeing our album in the racks. We are really pleased that No Face have been able to get the album out there so it can sell, and even more pleased because now the record buying public have the option to choose to buy Real Metal instead of some insipid, watered down nonsense.

Thanks a lot for your time and close the interview as you want.

Many Thanks Antonis and Alekos, we really appreciate you giving us this opportunity to let the Heavy Metal Warriors of Greece be informed about Conquest of Steel. One day soon we hope to come and play in Greece and show you guys what True British Heavy Metal is all about! Keep it Metal!
