BEJELIT
Interview with Giulio Capone
Interviewer: Antonis Maglaras

Hi Giulio, so here we are again with your second album. First of all congratulations for this one and tell us what do you feel some weeks after the release date of it?

Hi Antonis! Yes, It's a big big honour for me and Bejelit of course to be here speaking with you again! I feel really excited about it but overall I feel really happy about the Bejelit's future! With the Tiberio's join we gained a strong member and a stronger will to go on with Bejelit. In the last months with Fabio, the situation wasn't very good and the will was fading...it wasn't a Fabio's fault but a very unclear situation full of shades and without any guarantee about the future of Bejelit. Now everything is different and the band is more strong than ever before!

So now for your newest album, you have a new label, "Old Ones". Actually this is your label, right? Which things made you to form a label for Bejelit?

Yes it's right! Me and my brother Sandro created Old Ones Records to produce some good music not only from Italy but from all the world! Of course we would like to concentrate our efforts on heavy metal mainly. Someone maybe thinks that we did it to produce Bejelit only, and maybe because the band hadn't a new deal. This is really wrong fortunately. Old Ones Records was created before the recording session of Age of Wars so it's a totally independent thing. We had to chose a first production so it was really natural to look at the Bejelit new album, don't you think so? :) We did it also to try the goodness of Old Ones Records on our skin and the things are going really good so soon you will see some new Old Ones productions! :-)

And I can tell you more...maybe the next Bejelit album won't be released for Old Ones Records....but it's too early to say something surely...

Another change for Bejelit is the new singer. Why the first one left? I want to say that his voice is in my head every time that I hear Bejelit but also the new one has many good things.

We have his voice in our heads too when we're listening to the old songs but I think it's quite a normal thing. We had to split because he received a good job offer and the situation in the band wasn't good. We really didn't know if he were a member no more in the last months. We didn't want to prevent him to follow his path so we decided friendly to stop our collaboration and to find a new singer. We also though to stop Bejelit or just to go on with him but without playing live...we were really near to kill the band so a clear decision was really necessary. Now everything is better and we can look to the future without any doubt! Tiberio brought new life to the band and he has a great voice and an extraordinary strength on the stage!

Bejelit

Was it easy for you to find him? Did you spend a lot of time search the best solution?

Well we tried more than ten singers and they were all really good vocalists. Of course first of all we look at someone near to Fabio as voice and person but we didn't find the right person so when the hope was leaving us we met Tiberio who was recording a promo CD with his old Queen Tribute band in my studio. I though his voice could be really nice on our new stuff and I asked him to record some songs with Bejelit. The result surprised us too! He seemed to be a Bejelit member since the beginning! I have to say that the song writing was complete when he joined the band so the real Tiberio's value will be clear from the new album...

So far how is the reaction from the press and the fans for your newest album?

The reaction was really great and webzines and magazines appreciated Age of Wars more than Hellgate! We of course are really happy to see that Tiberio conquered the old Bejelit fans as the new ones! Of course we understand if someone is quite confused about the new vocal style but I think that with the next album everything will be ok and no one will feel anything strange!

Tell me the concept behind the cover.

Hey Antonis, you're the very first one who asks this to me! Not even the other Bejelit guys asked that!!! eheh Well as maybe you noticed we avoid dragons, knights and so on and also if the lyrics are about a mercenary team we chose something different.

The flames represent the war and the hand in the middle has two different meanings. One is the endless ambition of Griffis who want to conquer everything and everyone just for his personal dream and the second meaning is about the five demons of the God's hand. The zodiac wheel is just a cool thing :-) No meaning for that! Well...it's also a magical symbol but I think it's too long to explain it here... :-)

Any tips about the lyrics?

With Hellgate we spoke about some Berserk chapters without a precise timeline so while we were writing the lyrics for this album we decided to follow a more precise timeline and the result is the track list of Age of Wars. I think that if you're a Berserk fan you won't have any difficulties to follow the story and maybe you could listen to Age of Wars during the reading!

Do you have plans for future live shows?

Bejelit never stop! We're always on tour and we're always playing everywhere! :-) eheh. We had some good live gigs just after the release of Age of Wars and after this really hot summertime we will be back on tour with some important live gigs in Italy and hopefully we'll play some gigs in all the Italian areas.

By the way, have you ever played outside Italy?

No, unfortunately...we're trying to do that but as you can imagine it's not a very easy thing...we would really like to play some gigs outside Italy... So for now we'll try to promote our music as well in Italy and then with the new album to organize a real tour outside Italy... we'll see:-)

In your rehearsal room have you ever tried to compose your songs with some elements from the modern metal to see how it will sound?

Yes just for fun! Sometimes we love to play the final part of our old song Bones and Evil with a "rap style" and the result is really funny! Well, we hate that music so we won't EVER add too modern elements to Bejelit music :-). We’re a metal band we're happy and proud to be that! :-) Seriously we though to add some modern elements but we didn't find anything good so it's difficult to say if in the near future we will do that...well, if you listen carefully "The Evil Inside" you can notice the very modern metal rhythmic part in the beginning and in the ending...

You formed this band, some years ago. Back then did you believe that one day you wouldl have two albums, your own label and Bejelit would be alive?

No. I hoped Bejelit would be alive for a lot of time but surely I didn't hope to see Bejelit at the first album...so imagine how I felt as I got the first copy of Age of Wars!

It's like a dream and the most funny thing is that I'm better know as drummer, when drums is not my main instrument...I'm going on with an instrument which is not mine eheh! Anyway the label was a job opportunity and we wanted to create it since a long time. The best thing of Bejelit is that we have no musical boundaries so we write and play everything we want to!

The first album is the beginning, the second one is also very important but the most important is the third one. Have you some new tunes? Do you afraid of your third step?

Uhm...maybe it's quite early but I can say that...yes, we're working on the new album yet! :))) Just before to speak with you now, me, Sandro, Giorgio and Daniele were working on the pre-production of the new album that should be released in the first months of 2007. We have yet a working title and something around 25 new songs. We never stop to write new music and the new stuff is really BETTER than whatever we did before with Bejelit! I think we could really create something special. The new album will be powerful as Age of Wars but fresh and melodic as Hellgate...maybe it will be a little darker...the lyrical concept will be of course mainly about Berserk but...we're working on some new lyrics about some other things... We're truly excited about it! We're absolutely not afraid of that! We can wait to hear the new album finished!!! :-) Anyway before the end of summer we'll finish the pre-production then after a month of rehearsing and listening we'll enter the Old Ones Studio to record the new album.. then in the beginning of the new year we'll probably fly to another country to mix it and for the mastering...we wanna the best album we can make!!!

How are the things now days in Italy for the metal scene?

The scene here is alive but there's a hard situation about the place where to play in.

So it's quite difficult to play live...especially heavy metal... anyway I think Bejelit are really lucky and we can play a lot of gigs every year. We have a lot of good band but I cannot see a metal community spirit...you know what I mean, I cannot see a real unity under the same metal flag. We'll see what future will bring...

Giulio, thank you very much for your time and we will talk again for your third album.

Thanks a LOT to you and of course to ALL your readers! So we'll speak very soon my friend!!! Visit our official site and join our officil forum at http://www.bejelit.com! Stay Berserk!!!
