Resuscitation
for Vader? The last album was pretty
much OK, a bit different but still
they don’t seem to regain their
throne in Polish death metal (occupied
by Behemoth in the '00s). That’s
I think the 3rd DVD from the band,
and the one to offer a really big
setlist. And a weird, almost bad cover
artwork as well. As usually, in Stodola
venue, in a show where they’ve
been headlining, together with Onslaught
and Solitude Aeturnus. So, you’ve
got to see more people in the crowd
this time, hah! A good chance for
older fans to check some new stuff
on stage, with the new drummer and
of course a choice of songs covering
entirely their official album career.
Only "Dark Age" from their
legendary debut, two songs from their
best and unrepeatable in my opinion
recording, "De Profundis",
the usual three out of "Black
To the Blind", and two from the
first effort for Metal Blade Recs.,
"Litany".
Everything is performed
neatly, after all we’re talking
about pros who will be soon celebrating
25 years of existence, being one of
the first exported excerpts of extreme
metal behind the Iron Curtain. Great
lighting effects and sound (cool new
drummer) are here for sure. If you’d
ask me which visual product I’d
choose between all the Vader releases,
I’d say "More Vision &
The Voice" 'cause of the
tracklisting, but anyway, this one’s
good enough to make you start headbanging.
The interview with Pete could be more
informative, despite the fact that
he talks a lot (it’s to a polish
journalist, after all), covering mostly
the latest period. Unfortunately,
the extra stuff is just two video
clips and no backstage/rehearsal footage
or bootleg stuff. The new song "Sword
of the Witcher" is based upon
a computer game ("The Witcher"),
yet it’s not disappointing as
"This Is the War" was,
showing the band playing as well,
in front of a castle. In the last
song "Wyrocznia" (cover
song or something?) we can see Orion
from Behemoth joining on stage to
take care of the vocal duties and
put an ending to a show lasting more
than 100 mins.!
From the mass production
of DVDs, that’s a good one,
in spite of not pleasing followers
who have been banging to their VHS
bootlegs from the first Vader tours
'round the globe and prefer the lyrical
concepts of P.W., deceased (died by
his own hands) occultist and responsible
for donating the band some of their
best texts, rather the war themes
Peter (vocals/guitar) has stuck to
in this new era. Anyway, some shredding
live stuff included...
