With
the purpose of warming the audience
right before their anticipated new
album "White Ink" (sometime
in 2008), this EP has managed to
increase our respect for this Swedish
outfit. Labeled as melodic death
metal, the five piece band of Satariel
has delivered four tracks of exceptional
metal music. Indeed, Satariel have
many references to the well-known
sound of In Flames, Soilwork and
Opeth, in terms of skilled musicianship
and mixed vocals style. However they
have removed important elements of
this genre, like the "industrial" and
mechanistic feeling and the Maiden-like
melodies. Instead they have incorporated
modern power metal parts, like for
instance the final track "Flies
Halo" that could be interesting
for fans of Brainstorm, or the self-titled
track that has a strong, memorable
and uplifting refrain. The also band
flirts with powerful doom metal,
as they had in their ranks the famous
Messiah Marcolin and recently they
recruited the services of Simon Johansson
of Memory Garden. This doesn't
mean that they are slowing down their
tempo, but they do use this subtle
and characteristic melody of Swedish
doom metal. This EP is well produced
and includes also a video of "Hogtied
Angel" in a carefully designed
multimedia part. "Chifra" is
a strongly suggested release, which
surely gives many promises for the
future of Satariel. |
