This
is the debut album of Revolting Breed,
a newly founded death/thrash/metalcore
band located in Patras, Greece. I
happen to know Sotiris (the bass player)
for a long time, so I knew of his
musical whereabouts and his participation
in this release. I also saw them live
once, leaving me eager to listen to
their songs recorded. But I surely
wasn't prepared for such a powerful
result! Seriously now, at first I
wasn't really sure where to focus
my attention to: the destructive riffs
that every song is loaded with? The
bombardment from the drums? Or the
awesome growls? In the end, for me
it's the quality of the songs that
is the strongest point of this release,
and I believe it will help the Greek
scene perform one more leap forwards.
Given the high technical
education of the band, I’m really
glad they used those skills to backup
their songwriting which, in my opinion,
is of very high level and evident
throughout the record. Without avoiding
a slight repetition of riffology on
some songs, the band honors the founders
and continuers of the modern Swedish
sound (call me At the Gates/The Haunted
if you must) and filters their heritage
in the writing of 13 devastating tracks
where fury, speed, groove, technique
and melody mix with each other, in
different quantities each time. Definitely
a suitable musical style for their
merciless lyrical attacks on modern
day society. And of course we shouldn't
forget to mention the mixing/mastering
done by Andy Classen, that boosts
this album even more with it's clear
(ok, some might find it too clear)
and powerful sound. The final result
is equally good or even exceeds many
of today's productions, and exhibits
the songs even more.
As always, some of
you won't like the music of this release,
or don't care/don't know the various
difficulties a Greek band faces, especially
those of the province like this one.
In the end, what matters is whether
the music moves you or not. Fair enough.
But even in your case, I believe you'll
admit this work lacks nothing, and
is a fully professional one. Best
wishes for the future, guys!
