Edge of Serenity
is a new band from Netherlands, in
the genre of melodic-atmospheric death
metal and comes with a really good
debut album. The band actually moves
in the sphere of melodic death with
some black metal elements occasionally,
but the melody is what really defines
them. I'd say they are influenced
from many bands like early Lacuna
Coil, later Dimmu Borgir, with atmospheric
guitar tunes in a Septic Flesh kind
of way.
The compositions
are concise and balanced with sufficient
diversity. As a result what we have
here is a set of ten songs that never
sound boring.
In this album one may find really
interesting high quality riffs, leads
that tend to stick in your head and
some really good solos. The clean
vocals are a big plus with their
laid back style and, with the occasional
use of female vocals, they create
a nice balance with the growling
death vocals. The rhythm session
works out really well and the occasional
strings and synths come to complement
what appears to be as a complete
picture.
So what we have here is
a very talented group. Their strong
point is composition, I mean, they
really know how to write good music!
The sound is diverse, but in no case
can it be described as progressive.
Many different genres come into play,
but what stands out is the melody,
so for all those that love atmospheric
death metal, well, I'm sure
you'll enjoy
this one. |
