Despite
the fact that their moniker is not
that rare in the underground (with
most famous being the polish black/death
band), these lads from Italia managed
to have a name familiar to their lyrics,
from my point of view. The music in
this mCD (or demo?) is well-played
and varied, reminding more than it
should but nothing as well. With a
wide assortment of styles, ranging
from new-fangled grind, deathcore
to NWOSDM and then some more, acquiring
even emo-alike tuning on their guitars.
"Lucio Fulci Has Got A New Mania"
(what a title, huh?) stands as the
best song among a total of five, inspite
of being more melodic and owning some
slightly distorted vocals. Another
good achievement is the sound of this
recording, surprisingly good for a
newcomer such as Ebola are. What can
let down the listener is the absence
of a homogenous style; this quintet’s
still trying to find an identity between
modern metalcore sounds, plus each
track on its own is disorientating
from what they’re really up
to. The songwriting is above the usual
standards and time shall tell if these
guys can lay down songs around the
same core or just babble in between
decent ones without a stigma of personality. |
