Dominance is a technical death metal band from Italy. I haven’t encountered the band before and I was a bit skeptical about the album, due to the fact that the Italian scene focuses on other metal genres. As it turns out "Echoes of Human Decay" is without a doubt a small jewel.

Dominance is an old band, formed in 1992 and they have one other release back in 1999. The fact that they are an old band can be seen in the album by the density of their compositions, the ease with which they alternate between different tempos and the completeness of their sound. Dominance have a strong war element of aggression with much scratching on their guitars and similar filling of the drums, while the rhythm has a constant flow that keeps things interesting. Technically Dominance unravel their rich talent without much difficulty and show that they can easily move throughout the entire range of Death Metal. Their sound brings to mind bands like Morbid Angel, Hypocrisy and Death. Their sound is full of old school melody with hard riffs and progressive guitar spins here and there in the pattern of Death. The brutal vocals match perfectly with their overall sound and give a pleasant scrape to the listeners’ ears.

Overall I would say that "Echoes of Human Decay" is a very good album. It sounds very modern and is rich of ideas, while drawing much from death metal past. Hopefully they will not wait another ten years before their next release.
