Two things are really extreme in this promo copy I received.
First one is the music: fast and ultra
brutal death metal, in the vein of
bands like Origin and The Berzerker.
Second, it is the annoyance of the
repeatedly sounded message "you
are listening to a new promotional
cd, which is property of Massacre
Records". Good people of Massacre
Records have mercy and don't fill
your promos with stuff like that!
It's true though that hearing this
message twice in each track isn't
enough to subtract the comprehensiveness
from the album. So, wanna know what
I think? We have a new band here,
comprised of experienced musicians
- both singer and drummer are former
Necrophagist members - who are definitely
skilled players, but not equally good
songwriters. There are highlights
in the record, my favorite ones being
"Malformed Magnificence"
and "Pain is God", but I
was left with the overall impression
of an album being a bit... flat. I
heard it a lot of times, and I still
couldn't really distinguish one song
from another, probably due to the
really few variations/changes in their
riffology. Sure, some will find this
to be a good thing; the world is filled
with deathsters who love to hear ultrafast
music and guttural vocals. I welcome
that too, still that's not the most
important aspect of a brutal band
for me. The overall work done here
is good, but could be better.
