Spawned from the scene of Black Metal somewhere in 1991, Behemoth is one of the best bands of the scene today. Never compromising their aggressiveness for melody, they have evolved to a more extreme-death path. Closer to the Scandinavian school, than the Poland one, with influences like Mayhem, they sound really technical and complex.
Live Eschaton is an old VHS release that has been re-released in DVD by Metal Mind, and is considered as an unofficial release by the band. It mainly consists of songs from the era of Satanica, Pandemonic Incantations and older albums. This release comes with a DVD mixed in both 2.0 and 5.1 and an audio CD.
The artwork is at the expected high standards of the band's releases. The video quality is decent, the audio quality on the other hand is just average for a DVD release. It is clear but lack dynamics. The band has a really good energy, despite the fact that the hall of the Krakow TV studio isn't full and the crowd isn't all that warm. Still, the performance of the band is something worth seeing, and every song is performed magnificently. I personally am a fan of the later albums of the band, with Thelema.6 being my most favorite. Still I enjoyed this release a lot. A special mention should be made on the extras of the DVD. The most important are a very interesting interview with frontman Nergal, band and members biography, and six rare audio tracks. The rest of the extras are the typical photo-art gallery, websites, logo etc.
This DVD mainly addresses old fans and people that enjoy those albums. The songs are only ten and the duration of the live show is less than one hour, which is a drawback for a DVD release, but at the very least the two bonus videos compensate for the short duration. In shorts this is a good release for the old fans, nothing exiting or monumental that one must see, but still a good addition to one's personal collection.
