The
return of Angelcorpse is by no means
one of today's daily jokes, beware!
But what Angelcorpse have to do with
Ares Kingdom? Well, Mr. Pete Helmkamp
was, as known, in Order From Chaos
before that, a band which pushed the
limits of extreme metal further and
settled new boundaries in terms of
musical & lyrical aspects. Charles
Keller, comrade of P.H. those glorious
late ‘80s/early ‘90s days
after successfully experimented with
his astral vehicle, Vulpecula, went
back to the roots forming Ares Kingdom,
a band whose identity can be traced
when interrogating one of your rusty
needles of your spinner. He's accompanied
by experienced skinsman Mike Miller
(also in OFC for those who possess
not a strong memory) plus two other
maniacs around the same age - one
of them, Doug, being member of the
defunct mid '90s band Nepenthe / Ligeia.
An amalgam of heavy
and thrash exposed in a more blackened
way, with death metal vocals, executed
steadily and almost scorching - just
listen to these very metallic leads/solos.
To my disappointment, they're
way too traditional sounding, reminding
of late Deströyer 666 and Razor
Of Occam, yet different, in their
own way (more mid-paced and epic).
And furthermore, some of the songs
included can be found in former releases
like "Firestorm Redemption"
12" mLP that got unleashed one
year ago, or even their 2006 demo
(I'm not sure if they've
took in songs from the great "Chaosmongers
Alive" 7'' EP that Agonia released).
The lyrics are good and well-layed,
and the sound of the album as well;
no surprise that it was recorded in
the so-called Very Metal Sound studios!
A sum of eight tunes
(two of them are instrumental though)
is not much, surey as a fan of such
attempts I'm eager for more,
that I hope will come in the near
future.
